Friday five and faves

  1. Well, we got spared, guys! The storm turned more easternly somewhere between 6 and 10 pm so we just got a lot of rain. We did get wind, which is normal, but not nearly as much as they thought. I’m talking, they were saying things like “Catastrophic!”; “Worst storm since 1824!”
  2. And maybe if we’d been hit straight on, it would have been, but even judging from the damage done along the coast and in Perry, which is where they got hit with a cat 3 last year, I am not entirely sure it was what they claimed. I know that sounds kind of bad but they reported an 8 foot storm surge and the news channels were pummeling us with “15-20 feet!” I hate TV and reporters and all that hype. Please, just report facts and stop trying to make everyone panic!
  3. I am ever so grateful it was not the worst case scenario. I slept amazing last night after the worst had passed and I felt safe going upstairs. Woke up to cool temps, a little breeze, and just some small branches and stuff down in the yard.
  4. Hopefully after I get a run in, we will be able to do some work around the house and maybe later, go to a local brewery’s Oktoberfest!
  5. They canceled the soccer tournament this weekend so we are free. They rescheduled it for the last weekend in October, which was already a free one for us, so that works out. Pushes his season a bit longer but hey, at least they plan to do it another time. OK, that’s it for now. Here’s some faves from my weird week.

The sky on Tuesday morning, as the storm pushed into the gulf:

The kids camped out in the safest room in the house as the storm hit. Pardon the mess but hey, it was a good idea, IF it had been the “catastrophic” storm they predicted!

  1. Thank goodness! Our area is impacted by snow fall in a somewhat similar alarmist attitude. Snow is not an anomaly at all like it is in the south. But snowstorms (more than five inches or so) are also not super common like in a lot of northern locales. Whenever more than two inches of snow is in the forecast, it is a HUGE deal for the local TV newstations. You must be so relieved! Have a great weekend!
