MMMM + Hello, weekend that was

Good morning! With the threat of a tropical storm, potentially hurricane, heading my way, I’m just trying to get everything done this week as early as possible!

Anyway, I had a bunch of work work to do Friday and I did them pretty early, which is good because by 9, Ash had us back on the fire pit project. We went to Lowe’s, built the wooden frame, then dug out the space a bit more before staking it in and making sure it was level. All that took roughly 3 hours, if you include showering.

His friend had asked if we wanted to go to lunch and since it was already 12:15, we said yes. So we met him up at Midtown Caboose, which is a favorite burger spot around here. When I say “everyone and their mom was there”, I’m not kidding – it was parents’ weekend for college so it was quite crowded; good thing we were not in a hurry! When we finished, Ash and I went to DQ and then home, even though he wanted to see a movie. I said I still had some work to do so we headed home.

Once the kids got home and whatnot, we felt motivated and decided to just go ahead and mix/pour the concrete.

It was nice to have a little help from them. Would have been better had my oldest been able to carry heavy concrete bags but he had work. We got finished with all 6 and still felt we needed more so I took Isaac with me and we snagged two more, which ended up being enough.

It was a long day and a backbreaking one; Ash and I couldn’t get over how thirsty we both were. I probably drank 64 ounces of water or more that day! After everyone had gone to bed, he and I watched a movie and went to sleep kind of early, which was nice.

Saturday morning, I got started on cleaning and cooking – had to make green beans for a homebrew club event. Ash ran 4.5 miles and Isaac and I watched a little soccer. By 10ish, we were headed to his game and Ash went to the club brew. Isaac’s team finally got a win! They didn’t think they had a chance because one of their tallest defenders and their keeper weren’t able to make it but they managed. Isaac had a great assist for a score. He wore his old number because he left his new jersey at home; sigh.

Dakota came with me to the game and parking sucked but the refs kept the game to an hour instead of closer to an hour and twenty, so we were able to get out of there quickly. I took them home, grabbed a couple box fans, greeted my oldest as he pulled in with the pre-ordered pizza, then I headed to our friend’s house for the club brew.

With the number of new people in the club and the number of people who, according to Facebook, saw the event invite and updates, we still only had a few people show up. Oh well; it was a Saturday during football season – I understand.

We were pretty beat so once home, I made some food for kids and then we rewatched Age of Ultron, which is as bad as I remember.

Sunday morning was bike ride morning and we planned to do 20. We rode 15 last weekend so it was time to up. Ash suggested the Bradley’s route, which is named as such because it is across the street from the country store of the same name, a staple of old Tallahassee culture. He has run that route many times. It was about 2 miles paved until the red dirt, which he assumed was the whole way but was actually only four miles, then it was paved until we got to ten and turned around. It was not an easy ride but it was worth it.

Yeah, you see that elevation? Some of the hills were slow going! But we got it done and that was a nice way to begin the day. We got home, showered, then went to Total Wine. There’s a beer called Cold Beer by Brew Dog that was a very good price: 18.99 for 18 cans. We needed more and got rewarded because it was on sale for 12.99!

The rest of the day was cooking (bacon, eggs, biscuits) and laundry and football. Every time my husband and I are matched up in fantasy football, I win. It’s just something that happens and it fires him up. Luckily, he won against me yesterday. I know I should play it more fair and just accept a win but I like when he’s happy so I am glad the football gods saw fit to give him a win.

This morning, I’ve taken Dakota to practice and now I have to get myself organized with work. Ash and I plan to take the form off the concrete pad today and we can begin assembling the actual fire pit soon!

Hmm, I cannot think of a song for either theme this week; I also can’t really think of a song about a grandma or one my grandma liked. I guess maybe she was a pretty big Benny Goodman fan so here ya go:

  1. Twenty miles is a long way – I am so impressed!! I always think of Florida as being flat so it is interesting that there were hills on the route. Is it more hilly in your area? I need to look at a topo map of Florida!! haha!

  2. You put in the hard work so I hope you get to enjoy the pit soon. Although I lived in Tampa for two years many years ago, I’ve never been to the panhandle. I’ve seen small hills in the Central part of the state but your elevation gain surprised me. Glenn Miller is always a good choice. There’s one band member left, incidentally – 102 years old.

  3. Between work, exercise, brewing, and home projects you all get a lot done! We climbed to the top of a cathedral tower yesterday-275 steps up a spiral, medieval, stone staircase that was 24 inches wide. I didn’t hyperventilate so calling it a win lol. What a view too! Hope you’re having a nice week!
