Wednesday ‘Podge – ‘Ey Mate, goin’ British this week

1. Something that’s had you ‘chuffed to bits’ recently?

God, it’s awful I can’t think of something right off….OH! It was when my daughter got a good time in cross country. I know I already talked about it but we were so excited. We had this expectation, you know, based on her previous training and abilities and then her first two meets, she really did not meet those. So when she came in at 15:32 in the third meet, we were over the moon!

2. Tell us about an instance recently where you were tempted to ‘throw a wobbly’ (expression used to describe tantrums thrown, usually by adults or people who should know better)

About a week and a half ago, I had left my second class and gone to my office. There, I found out I’d really dropped the ball in one of my online classes and had a conversation with someone from there that completely stressed me out. THEN, my mom was freaking out about what to make or have for dinner when we were set to arrive. Normally, this is not an issue but she was making it such. THEN my husband was all like, I’ll just eat something here and she can do whatever. So I was the one trying to smooth everything over and make everyone happy and as I stood in the hall, trying to talk them both through this, all the while stressing about my own stuff, I was about to just throw my phone and cry!

3. Something everyone seems to love but is not your ‘cuppa tea’

Hmm, Taylor Swift? Being on their phones all the time, bad TV? There’s so many!

4. Fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding…which entree would you choose? Yes, you have to choose.

Probably bangers and mash, though I had a really good Yorkshire pudding at this place in Pensacola called Calvert’s. We went back in August when we returned from our two week trip. My parents took us and wow, it was good!

5. Something you want for your birthday this year?

My birthday already passed back in March but given all the stuff that happened THE DAY BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY, what I really wanted was a new job. Guess I got it because I eventually did land on my feet.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

You know how they say ‘work begets work’? After working on the fire pit Monday, I have been really motivated. Tuesday I got a lot done, taught, had a meeting with a woman from the college where I am struggling (that I was DREADING but it went great), and I even made dinner. Ash and I had Mexican chicken and rice and then we took Isaac to practice and went to see The Killer’s Game, which was good. Nothing amazing but a fun action movie.

Today I have a lot to do, including grading, some house work, Dakota’s one midday meet, lunch with Ash, dinner for the kids, then brew club EC meeting at Ology. I got the gift of time this morning. XC practice usually means I leave at 7:30 to get her to the school but since the meet is at 11 today, she is sleeping in. So it’s quiet, I’m listening to (of course) Yacht Rock Deep Tracks, and starting on my work. Life is good!

  1. We had so many travel frustrations this week, and at one point I kind of wanted to cry. It happens sometimes, but sounds like you recovered well. Congrats to your daughter! Hope you get the hang of whatever it is you’re struggling with at work. I’m sure it will all come around.

  2. Work does beget work! I have found that on the days where I sub for half a day, I generally get more accomplished at home then when I am home all day. I work so much more efficiently and I am completely out of lazy mode. Your daughter has a meet at 11:00 am today? Aren´t the kids at school during that time? I hope she continues to do well!

    1. I meant to write that on your post; my son was telling me how they don’t have enough high school subs so he had to go sit in the library. How crazy is that! I keep thinking I might do that but I don’t know if I have it in me.

    1. No, this is the only one that isn’t at 6 pm. It’s at the school for special needs kids so every year they go there, make posters, and watch those kids run first.

  3. That’s wonderful about your daughter. Sorry about the issues your had a week and a half ago. I’m with you Taylor Swift and being on their phones all the time. I’m not even familiar with bangers and mash. Glad you had a good day. Hope you day goes well for you.

  4. That’s great about your daughter! I actually thought about naming Taylor Swift as “not my cuppa tea” as well. I really don’t get what the big deal is about her. Hope you’re having a great week and getting through your to-do list!
