Wednesday ‘Podge – I almost always overreact

1. What’s the last thing you completely overreacted to?

Well, I am a bit behind on posting so it was this morning when I realized my daughter is feeling sick. I HATE making the choice of sending a kid or not, especially if they don’t have a fever. She just made cross country so she is missing practice #1. But it’s early in the semester, at least. Oh, but I was really mad and overreacting when I realized it and kind of took it out on her. Really, what started me down that path was Elliot saying that no, he had no shirts to be washed yesterday and then this morning, said he had no shirts. COME ON, SON!

2. Your top five snacks?

This is tough because I don’t technically snack. I guess I will go with: pecans, cheese, meat stick, strawberries, cashews

3. What smell always brings back some type of memory? Elaborate.

Since our host said popcorn above, I remember my mom worked nights when I was little and sometimes my dad let me stay up late enough to see her when she got home around 9 something. She would come in and say goodnight to me and then go into the kitchen and make popcorn the old fashioned way, in a pan. That smell always reminds me of those times and her.

4. What’s something you learned from the last book you read?

I’m currently reading Mile Marker One and it’s sort of a fictionalized version of real life events about the start of Key West and then, the literary scene in the 60s/70s, so I learned about Tom McGuane, who is apparently quite famous and I had never heard of.

5. What’s the next thing on your to-buy list? Will you make that purchase before the end of the year?

Ugh, I have so much we still need to get for the kids in terms of school/sports. Isaac needs a soccer ball, both boys need shirts, and Dakota needs new running shoes. I will def make these purchases before the end of the year but I am dreading them.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

What a day already! From the boys being annoying this morning and Dakota under the weather, and then the AC people supposed to come yesterday (and Ash stayed home) but they’re supposedly coming today, I am just STRESSED. It’s always a lot, isn’t it? I mean, I said this to my daughter about ALL THE THINGS: we could say no and do nothing – no activities, etc… – but then, what would our lives be? I mean, I don’t want to just sit around and watch shows and do nothing else. That’s not a life, it’s simply existing. So you do all the things and stress about having no time!

OK, I have SO much grading and work to do in my course shells so I had better get on it. We have another fantasy football draft today at 4, then tomorrow, a meeting. SO thankful that Friday and Saturday – for now anyway – we don’t have plans. I can maybe catch up!

  1. I hope your daughter starts to feel better. I hated it when my kids had to miss school and practices and when there´s no fever, and you have to tell people that your child can´t do the activity because she is not feeling well, it can kind of sound like she is looking for an excuse to not do the activity or go to school. Ugh! Hang in there!

  2. I forgot to add that I make popcorn on the stove- none of that microwave stuff! It is so good on the stove!!

  3. I used the snack question in our small group last night. I only asked for their top three. They are all young adults – mostly in their 20’s (out of college) up to 33. A few of them chose healthy snacks, but a lot of them love chocolate and oreos and sour candy! I agree with your random thought. As we were falling asleep last night, I told Mark that I’m glad we aren’t the kind of folks who just sit around. Even at our age, we are on the go.

  4. I wish I didn’t snack. I’m sorry your daughter is sick. It’s that time of year I guess, where all the germs get remixed. It’s tough finding balance in the season you’re in. I look back and remember how much time we spent in the car going to all the things and some good talks happened then, so stressful but sweet too. Fall is always the busiest, plus you’re figuring out your own new routines. Have a great day!

  5. I remember those days you are having, and when the kids play sports, it just amps everything up a notch or two. I like the smell of popcorn too. I hope your daughter feels better soon. No fun being sick when school just started and you have practices etc.

Take Care and don’t forget to BREATHE

  6. So sorry your daughter is not well. I hope she is better already and your stress level has dropped too. 💙

  7. Ugh, sports shopping! Sophia was an equestrian, so it was always new breeches, hair nets that went missing every year, and gloves that also seemed to disappear. Hope your daughter’s feeling better soon.

  8. I remember getting stressed when a kid would be sick, then wondering what to do about activities. Luckily, it was a rare thing. Hopefully she’s better.

And what’s with contractors, etc. thinking people just have open schedules for them to come over whenever!?
