MMMM + Busy weekend, as per usual

WELL, I just sent the email to my boss about when I’d like to set my last day here. He’s not exactly working with me to make my end of August paycheck beefy enough but hey, I need to get out so we shall make it work.

OK, let’s do the weekend recap. Ash and I saw Twisters on Thursday and it was pretty lackluster. I expected it to be a bit more fun. I like Glen Powell but even he couldn’t help that one. Friday, I left work a little early so I could catch up on life. I feel like it’s been so busy. I ran a couple errands and then went to the hardware store with Ash for wood for our set-up for the upcoming beer festival. In the evening, I had zero plans and that was nice! We inherited 30 eggs from a friend of ours who has chickens so I decided to make devilled eggs. However, I didn’t have any ground mustard so I went to the store and on the way back, got a text from the neighbors to come hang out.

So Ash and I went over there for a few hours, thereby utilizing all my evening time. I did end up making the eggs later when we got home though. The next morning I was going to run but I was feeling lazy. I sipped my coffee and tidied up, then ran to Total Wine while Ash biked. We left for Jacksonville around 9:30. If you read my posts last week, our two beer judges for our club competition bailed out so we arranged for a friend in another club to do it… but we had to take it to him. It’s not a terrible drive to Jax but a little boring. We got there around noon, Dave invited us in to chat for a bit, then by 1:30 we were headed out. We decided, since we were already there, to eat at Chuy’s then visit a few breweries. We went to Aardworf, King Maker, and Fishweir, respectively.

Aardwolf was doing this cool “Space Prom” event for the week and it was all decked out. Prety cool.

I guess we probably left town around 5ish and stopped halfway in Lake City, since we had never been to Halpatter, though we’d had their beer plenty of times. It was super crowded so we didn’t stay long. Also, that city is tiny and I’m pretty sure everyone and their mom was there!

I was happy to get home that evening and relax a little. Sunday I woke up and did get right on laundry and a 2.25 mile run. We had an event at 1 so I managed my time carefully. I made more devilled eggs to take and then the four of us (Elliot was working) had a breakfast lunch of eggs, bacon, sausage, and biscuits. So good but so much food! Left around 12:30 for our friend’s house; he got a new brewing system so decided to host. It was just us and one other couple, which was fine. Seems like a lot of club members were out of town this weekend. I don’t blame them; feels like summer is quickly coming to a close – and I don’t mean the season but the time before school begins. That window is closing up right quick; the kids go back to school on the 12th!

Sunday evening, I felt both irritated and motivated. I did dishes and put away laundry; cleaned my bathroom and folded beach towels. I also felt annoyed by my child who asked for copycat crunch wraps – with chicken – and after he ate, proceeded to go to the gas station and buy Swedish fish, chocolate pretzels, and the largest Powerade he could, then tried to eat all of it, in his room. Seriously son?? He knows we don’t a.) eat garbage and b.) in our rooms. After I got mad at him we did not speak again. Ugh. I hate that. But he also has to learn.

Anyway, this morning I am giving my boss my resignation letter (forced resignations are weird) and then walking with a friend at 10:15. I’m annoyed that I can’t get my time to stretch out longer but they did let me know end of March so I’ve taken advantage of them for a while. I am also not too upset in that I get more time at home before everything else begins. I had to take the 9th anyway for orientations and doctor appts, then that next week I’ll be home. The weekend before classes begin we have a bbq baby shower for a friend then a tasting adventure with the Gainesville homebrew club. We are always so busy and while the fall will make me slightly less money than I’ve been making, I think I am ready for a slower pace.

While I am almost certain I have shared this song before, I wanted to again. On Sunday, I was having a particularly good run. This song came on and it’s such a banger for running! I love to sing this one out loud as I pick up my pace. The funny part about it is that I don’t actually want to be somebody anyone knows. I never wanted to be famous. BUT, I want to be somebody my family and friends admire so in that aspect, this is a good one for me. Also, look past crazy Blackie and listen to the lyrics!

  1. Sounds like a good weekend! How cool to get all of those eggs… I have never made deviled eggs (I grew up in practically dairy free house so I didn´t grow up eating the deliciousnes that is deviled eggs) but I want to. Do you make the filling fancy or just glob the mixture into the egg? How nice to have some extra time to do all of the things. I am in denial that the summer (break, anyway) is coming to an end so quickly. Our school district starts the week after yours, I think. No one in that anymore (cue the sadness) but if I sub this year, it will impact. Have a great Monday!

    1. So my devilled egg recipe is as follows: (boil room temp eggs for 14 mins, soak in ice bath for 20; peel. I put the yolks in a bowl with an eyeballed amount of mayo, salt, pepper, jarred horseradish (preferable the kind that’s a bit chunkier), and some ground mustard. Then I load that into a small ziploc baggie and cut off the tip to fill the eggs.

  2. Sounds like lots of great tastings and the space place looks fun. Perhaps this slower pace before school begins will be the blessing you didn’t know you needed. The start of the school year is so hectic. Enjoy time with your family before that all kicks into high gear!

    1. Thanks! I’m hoping it’s the break I need too. I can always tighten my belt money-wise but only time can give me the mental relief I need.

  3. You may already know but if you don’t have ground mustard, yellow mustard you put on sandwiches works in a squeeze. See what I did there? lol Sometimes, it’s best to get out quickly as possible to utilize your time better. Everything will work out okay in the end. You’ll find a job in no time I feel. Your weekends are surely productive. Have a boogietastic week, my dear!

  4. Deviled eggs…Yum!! Now, I may need to make some for our dinner tonight. Hubby just mentioned going to Chuy’s this weekend with his mom, as she loves it too. Have a good day!

  5. Looks like you’ve got everyone craving deviled eggs now :). That space prom looks pretty cool.

The next morning you were going to run, but didn’t, and then “ran to Total Wine”. I see what you did there 😉

  6. Now I’m craving deviled eggs too! I’m SO there. Yours do sound heavenly. The way my husband makes them just makes my mouth water while I wait. We steam ours for 12 minutes. They peel nicely every time. Also, we put Paprika on top. Yum!

What a weekend. Made me tired just reading about all the traveling and going out. *lol* It’s been so hot lately next time we’re at Two Guys Liquor I’m going to get another case of Blue Moon. Something about warmer temps makes drinking a beer so much more pleasant.💙
