MMMM + Here I am, again, at the office

And as you know, I don’t really want to be in this office. But hey, it is what it is…for now.

Let’s backtrack to Friday. I had an interview at 1 and it went really well! Actually, the woman I’d be working with is pretty cool. When she walked me out after, we stood around talking for another 20 minutes. So here’s hoping! I left there and headed home to change and then my oldest and I went for sushi. It was nice, actually. He was in the right mood and we really enjoyed it. I did a few things around the house before going back out to get the kids from camp and he had to go to work. Ash did let me know they chose to come home that night and after I cooked for kids and all that good domestic stuff, I sat down. I felt insanely tired. The kind where you feel like you just can’t get up. I wondered if I was getting sick but it didn’t quite feel like that. I sat in the sauna for twenty minutes just in case; sometimes the sweat will get rid of whatever invading toxins are affecting me.

Ash got home around 10 and we caught up on everything; his conference and the drama, the insane rains down south, how I ran brew club, and all the fallout from that. Went to bed fairly early. The next morning I began on some house chores and going to the store while Ash went to get a hair cut. I made green beans ahead of time for Sunday and then the mac and cheese we were taking to the party at 12. It was pretty fun; our friends have rented a huge water slide for 6 years and invited family and friends, neighbors. We were out of town last year for it. I went down it a couple times but mostly just talked to people. So the woman who invited me is married to the cousin of someone we’ve known a long time; probably 20 years. We hadn’t talked to them a lot the past couple because of an incident 3 years ago at their lake house. It’s a dumb story if I told it but needless to say, we were not going to be invited back. LOL.

We didn’t get home until well after 8 that night and Dakota’s friend spent the night. I was asleep in no time. Sunday morning, I took her friend home around 9 and began prepping Ash’s fave: a Thanksgiving meal. You know that is time consuming! I think I got everything on the table around 12:30. Everything turned out well but I will say, a reason Ash used to enjoy that meal so much is it is plain and basic. He always liked plain things. But he said this time, everything needed more spices and flavoring. I see we may have to get inventive the next time! We did not do a ton in the afternoon. We did watch the first Inside Out again and when Elliot got home, Saving Private Ryan. I finished laundry and we only drank 3 beers split among the two of us. Then around 7 we walked 4 miles.

I feel like I was rather productive with equal parts of socializing. Oh, and funny fact: around 11 on Sunday Ash says, “You’ll never guess what just happened.” I put down a spoon I was using to stir green beans and went into the living room. “Eppes invited us to the lake house next Saturday,” he tells me. I let out a huge laugh. “Really? I guess time does heal all wounds.” So yeah, next week we’ll give it another go. It was fun the two times we went; going out on their boat, using the jet ski, grilling out. We shall see!

So as I interpret it, these should be songs about dad OR songs your dad liked. Here’s a couple that will always remind me of him because he played them a lot.

  1. I hope it works out for the job!! I remember my daddy playing Sixteen Tons on our old stereo. It was A HUGE piece of furniture that sat on one end of the living room. There was a stereo on one end and speakers on each end and a TV in the middle. I guess the right side was either a radio or storage for records??

    1. Good luck with the job and the visit at the cottage. K hope both go well. I enjoyed the music picks.

  2. Yesterday was Father’s Day of course. And my dad has been gone two years. So many complicated feelings about the man I loved despite them all. SIxteen Tons was one of his favorite songs. I used to watch him shave in the mornings and he’d sing that song among others. He loved to sing in the mornings….

  3. I don’t remember Daddy ever playing music but he used to sing old gospels when the mood hit him. I have a video clip my niece recorded several years ago of my folks singing. It tears me up to watch it. Sixteen Tons was popular when I was a little girl and a song I can imagine Daddy having liked. When Daddy worked in the coal mines, he would leave part of his lunch cake for me or my brother which was a big treat and I remember how we tried staying up late when he was on the night owl shift just so we could get into his lunch box. 😀 Have a boogietastic week!

  4. I hope the job works out. It’s nice to have a boss you click with. Hope your visit to the friend’s lake hosue is a win too : )

  5. Good luck with getting this job. These songs remind me of my childhood (Tennessee Ernie Ford) and college years (America). It was nice listening to them once again. Alana ramblinwitham
