MMMM + This truly is the butt-crack of dawn

I woke up at 3:55 and had to be to work by 6:30. Yeah, I remember this from last year; there’s only 2 days in the final week of Session where we have 7 am deadlines for Senate bills. Luckily, my son left for D.C. today so I was already up. I honestly didn’t feel too bad. I slept in my chair for about an hour during a movie then got maybe 4 hours afterwards. As I said about this week in general: I can do anything tough for a short time.

Anyway, we got to leave a little after 5:30 on Friday so that was nice. Ash had taken my son and his friend to their band performance/assessment but then he just went home b/c the other mom was picking up. We got started on transferring a beer to ferment and I logged cans and then we sat to watch a movie. We had one in mind (I don’t remember) but ended up watching Pee Wee’s Big Adventure with our daughter, even though she’s seen it. We hadn’t in a long time so that was pretty fun.

Saturday we got up kind of early to get on the road to St. Augustine. We got there around 11 but the event began at noon so we went to this little breakfast place, Farmhand Kitchen. Pretty good food but they only had flimsy plastic utensils, which made Ash mad as he attempted to cut his pancakes. But oh well; still yummy. I had cheese grits and a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on pressed ciabatta with a garlic aioli. Super yum.

We then headed to Dog Rose and met the members of their home brew group. Two of them were set up to brew so that was cool. We talked to a lot of different people about their brewing methods, equipment, etc. That was pretty neat, actually. They finished up around 4:30 or so and the woman who runs it and who we’d first made contact with invited us to join them and another couple for dinner.

Ash and I walked and met them at a place called Treylor Park, which is apparently known for their pb&j wings. Of course, that is not what we got. LOL. I had shrimp and grit bite tacos and Ash had a burger. It was tasty though. We hit another bar and then one last brewery before calling it a night. It was actually fairly early (8ish?) but time. This lady and her husband were pretty boring, tbh, and their friends were not much better.

Got back to the airbnb and pretty much just rested. It was a long day full of beer and meeting people which, to me, is entirely exhausting. We got on the road home around 8 the next morning and despite some heavy rain, was uneventful. Home by 11 and I began on laundry, grocery shopping, and lunch around 1-2; made tacos and guac but I was a little worse for wear. Felt like a sinus headache but I came around once I got some food and headache pills in me. In the afternoon, Ash and I watched The Magnificent Seven. I got a lot of stuff done around the house and got Isaac all packed up for his trip. Ash and I took a 2 mile walk and it was nice out; a little cool since it had rained. (Though, it’s like second fall around here: leaves everywhere!) I helped Elliot make an omelet and he used the jalapeno honey I’d made earlier; said it was the best meal he’d ever had! I know I know, I’m a good cook. But he did a good chunk of it.

So yeah, today marks the beginning of the end; just (hopefully) five more days. I *think* they’re on track to pass the budget so that would be the only big hurdle. Hope and pray we get out of here early on Friday! I am not worried about late night this week, as it just means more comp time but that day? Nah, I am going to be ready to bail; ready to begin my four day weekend! I have already put myself out Monday and Tuesday and I’m gonna need the time off!

I feel like this song is appropriate today, for my life.

  1. Back when I worked full time, I saw more butt cracks of dawn (especially when we were leaving on vacation!) and this would have been my theme song, too. Alana ramblinwitham
