MMMM + Just two more weeks to go

I don’t know why I’m over here thinking they’ll go quickly but that’s where we are. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking!

Anyway, the weekend that was…

…I somehow managed to dodge the 3/4 pm deadline in our office, which means I was not beholden to the 6:30/7 ones and I got to leave by 5:30! What a gift. On my way home, I picked up some Chinese food that Elliot had ordered for us and while I actually had not planned to eat it, I hadn’t had Chinese in a long time and was it ever good! That evening, I pretty much just hung around the house, had a couple beers, and watched some TV with Dakota. Isaac had gone to a baseball game with a friend and so I waited for him to get home then headed to bed, kind of early actually.

Saturday was the doozy; I woke around 7 and got started on house cleaning, knowing we’d have kids over later. Ell left for a long shift at 8:30 and Koda had her last soccer game of the season at 9; Isaac went with us. In warmups, we started with one of the 0 kids taking a ball to the face and heading to the bench to cry. Then our best kid took a ball to the face and broke his glasses, so frantic moms moved into action to fix them. This did not bode well and yes, they lost. Our second best kid didn’t even show up. Oh well; I am sort of glad it’s over. We headed right to the store after and then home because her two friends got there about 11. While they hung out, I got stuff done around the house. You know, the little things no one else notices. I ran a cleaner through the disposal; I magic erased surfaces that get gunky from hands; I logged beer cans I was behind on; vacuumed rugs; cleaned bathrooms. Around noon I went up to drop off a return item and got myself some sushi then I came home to make the girls some lunch.

I had to run back to that brewery, as previously mentioned, and the woman let me come by before they opened so I took the girls with me and promised to take then to Target if they behaved. They each got to order a (non-caffeine) drink then Dakota had a gift card so they bought a bucket of slime, a container of paints, and a canvas, which they then took home and collaboratively worked on. That was nice; the girls were well-behaved and aside from not wanting to leave when it was time, it worked out well. Of course, soon as they were gone Elliot’s friend came over. They weren’t a problem, obviously, as they went out for food, etc… and came back later. They watched a movie in the living room, which meant I headed to bed. And really, this weekend did exactly what I wanted: afforded me the chance to catch up on chores and sleep!

It’s not that I don’t do those when Ash is home but we tend to do other projects and then go out, so I don’t have time to catch up on those other little things that only I notice. Anyway, Sunday I woke up at 4 am, thinking it was time to get up because it was light out. But that was just the full moon! I forced myself back to sleep and woke around 7. It was a slow morning; I listened to some jazz, played my tablet games, then made cinnamon rolls for the kids. We never eat those but Elliot had gotten some. I forced myself to run, even though I didn’t feel like it. It was a great run, too, until my knee started to hurt in a way that told me if I kept running, it would become a real injury. So I had to walk about a quarter mile. Sigh. Hit the store then came home to make a batch of spaghtti sauce for the fam for the week ahead.

Worked on laundry and at one point, the younger two went outside and we realized how temperate it was – and sunny! So I sat in the chair and soaked it up while Isaac worked on a Lego set and Dakota painted. It was a nice afternoon! Ash got home by about 2:30 so we caught up on the beer competition he had attended (our club’s entry won “peoples’ choice”) and the beer fest they attended after, on a whim. They’d met up with some local homebrew clubs and they got them into this other festival for free, so that was cool. I made steak, mashed potatoes, and corn (well, brussel sprouts for me; yum) and then we rewatched Dune part 1, since we’re seeing part 2 in a special screener on Thursday. It was better than I recall. When we watched it before, I was bored and didn’t care about the characters but this time was much more engaging.

All in all, it was a very good weekend. This week will prove long; today is an early day but tomorrow and Wednesday we have those afternoon/evening deadlines, which means I could leave as late as 7. Luckily, Thursday and Friday don’t have those so it’ll just be 30 minutes after Session ends. Instead of being in the chamber from 2-6, they go in from 10-6. Here’s hoping they can all work through each bill quickly and efficiently and let us go home!

OK so I’ll go with the “leap” or “jump” theme since it’s a leap year. This is the one that came to mind first; I’m not going to pick Van Halen’s “Jump” because that’s too easy. I can’t believe I found the original video for this song; it’s OLD!
