4. Tell us about a crush you had in high school.
Thanks, John, at https://thesoundofonehandtyping.com/ for taking over the workshop. I don’t do it all the time, especially not when I am just so overwhelmingly busy, but I’ll take a stab at it today.
OK, I’m going to cheat this and choose two – a real person and a fictional one. For fictional, I can tell you with almost 100% surety that most women of a certain age (ahem, I’m about to be 45) had THE biggest crush on Jordan Catalano from My So-Called Life. Let’s face it: young Jared Leto was a sight to behold. (I mean, kind of still is, tbh.)

My LORD was he pretty. But in the show, he was kind of the loner bad boy, all quiet and reserved but surprisingly deep. Also, a musician; sigh. Had the show not been canceled, I think we all wanted to see where it went with him and Angela and live vicariously through her character.
Now in real life, there were many guys in high school I had crushes on. Funny enough, none of the guys I hung out with/semi-dated were those men. LOL. The one I really remember was Joey MacDonald, who was on the football team. He was kind of short but built, blond and looked like he’d take you on a date where you go muddin’ in an old Jeep. We had a class together and spoke sometimes but he didn’t really cast an interested glance my way, that’s for sure. I remember circling his photo in the yearbook, amidst the one hundred or so other football players, and hoping some day he’d actually care to see me as more than just another girl in class. But I wasn’t the girl who got to date a football player. I was on the fringe, an outcast. I hung out with stoners and metalheads and the Environmental Club kids who liked to listen to ska and skateboard on weekends. In fact, one of the first guys I was ever technically dating was this black kid named Paul, who was a skateboarder.
I looked Joey up one day on Facebook years ago and he married a cheerleader, had a couple kids. It’s kind of fun to see where people ended up and sometimes I wonder if anyone does that to me. Who knows??

Cute. I’ve got a *few* years on you, and never watched My So Called Life or got on the Jared Leto bandwagon. Good choice, though!
High school was such a hormonal time, ha!
I remember *My So-Called Life*, though I didn’t watch it, and I remember a girl in an AOL chat room waxing rhapsodic about him. About your age, now that I think of it.
That’s about right. It was a cultural phenomenon.
