- Got to work slightly early and it occurred to me, as I walked up the hill to my building, that we turn our clocks back on Sunday. It felt pretty dark at 7:15 but I guess it’ll look more like the current 8:15 come Monday. I’m not upset about that but I hate the dark so early. Especially next week when I guarantee I won’t leave here any earlier than 7:30. At least on Monday. Maybe 5:30 Tuesday. Stupid Special Session. But that’s typical under our governor and everyone’s worried about this “war” happening right now.
- Oh, Happy Halloween! I love this holiday, to be honest. I also feel like this year, it is getting a lot more attention. In the recent years, I had this sinking feeling it was falling off. I mean, trick or treating is definitely not the same as it used to be but come on folks, it’s fun to dress up. It’s fun to skirt the lines between actually “Satanic” and not. My son has a friend whose dad is a Baptist pastor and they don’t even celebrate. I believe in a God who understands we aren’t actually heathens. But that’s just me.
- We’ll be doing our typical thing tonight, with the girl scout families. Our friend has a decorated trailer the kids ride on and we sort of walk behind. It’s not ideal; we’ve had years with other people I have preferred. But at the same time, you ride where you are in life. We have only one kid doing it – as Isaac is going with other friends – and so, you sort of go where things take you. I need to stop bemoaning the loss of a certain ‘thing’ like that because it will be ever-changing. Friend groups will rotate around and before yo know if, you’re not as close with some, etc. ‘Tis life!
- I can see it’s going to be a long day; I’ve only been here and hour and 15 minutes and it feels like an eternity. I wonder if anyone will do something for the holiday; we tend to go overboard in this office. Almost everyone has some kind of decorations on their doors already but I wonder if our Party Planner will bring in anything. Not that I need it; I’m going to be inundated with candy here pretty soon.
- ETA: email just came in that there will be treats out in the front area around noon. I knew it! I’ll have to cool it on the chips and salsa at lunch, since the bowl I get is so filling. Otherwise I’m going to feel like crap this afternoon.
- That’s all the random I’ve got for you today. Hope everyone has a great Halloween!
Happy Halloween! Just FYI – I am a Christian and I work in a church and I LOVE HALLOWEEN. We decorate with skeletons and I love to give out the candy and see all of the costumes.
I know it’s not everyone; my kids just went up to the Methodist church for trunk or treat and had a blast.
I have nothing against Halloween as a concept, but I’m not the kind to put on a costume and “celebrate” it. I didn’t even like it as a kid.
Happy “belated” Halloween! Trick-or-Treating isn’t what it was when I and then my kids were younger. But I still enjoy the costumes and festive atmosphere. “you ride where you are in life” – yep!
At the college, I saw a few definite costumes, then others I wasn’t sure of – could’ve been just the way those people normally dress!
