The Wednesday ‘Podge has gone nuts

1. Did you watch any coverage of the 9/11 services on Monday? How do you feel on this day some 22 years after the events occurred? Share more if you want to share more.

No, I did not watch. The only thing I saw in relation was the moment of silence before the Jets/Bills games. While I think it was a harrowing moment in America’s history, the farther we get from it – and the more I read – the more I worry that the details of 9/11 are not exactly what we think. Rather, I believe there was some other shady dealings (arms deals, perhaps) that led to the attacks. I.E. yes, I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist on this one and worry our government may be a bit to blame. I know it sounds nuts but look what they’ve uncovered about JFK. That was legit our government. I still think that some good came from the event, such as people feeling more patriotic, if only temporarily. We need more of that.

2. September 13th is National Peanut Day…do you like peanuts? Your favorite dish that contains peanuts?

Yes, I love them. I can’t think of a dish with them but I’ll take them roasted or boiled any day.

3. Something you’re currently ‘nuts’ about?

Hmm, it’s hard these days to get really crazy about something but I guess I will say I’m still really into Sleep Token. Such a good band.

4. Your favorite Peanuts character? There are several quizzes online if you’re curious…I took two and got the same character for both so I’m sure it’s accurate lol. (Click here for the link)

Well, it turns out I am Charlie Brown, but I always liked Linus, because he was more of the philosopher.

5. Tell us about a job you worked ‘for peanuts’

OK so there’s this thing called FPIRG, Florida Peoples’ Interest Research Group, and it was literally a group of people who canvased houses to get them to care about certain topics like clean water. I don’t remember how I heard about it but I was in between undergrad, grad school and a job and I needed something. It was awful. We walked door to door, got turned down, and the money we made was based on donations and split between everyone. I made, like, nothing at all.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Had my one week follow-up for the eye and I was cleared to stop wearing the eye shield at night and to go back to running! At least until next Wednesday when I get the other eye fixed. I am looking forward to having all of that behind me. I picked up some readers so I can actually see my phone, the computer, etc.

Today, I am working on this one (really weird) bill draft and leaving around 2:15. My oldest is getting his license today and well, that feels rather momentous. Maybe more for him but for me, just a new era of worry. Am I glad he’ll be able to take himself to the gym? Yes, very much so. Do I get a little stomach drop when I think about him on the road with all these really bad drivers? You betcha.

Looking forward to being done with this work week, in some ways. Today we just have soccer and I’m prepping a lasagna for Friday. Tomorrow is a regular work day then brew club at night. My parents come Friday and we have a DMV appointment to transfer to the title in the afternoon. I’m excited for them to be here though. We’ll go through our vacation photos and they can see Isaac’s Saturday game. We’ll watch FSU play and drink beer and have a nice time. Plus, we’ll be up a car and my son will be happy!

  1. My kids LOVE boiled peanuts. I can eat them . . . they taste like peas to me so if I want peanuts, I wanted roasted or dry roasted or even old timey planter’s peanuts in a bag from the convenience store.

  2. Agree with your first response. I know many people are so trusting of the government, but c’mon.
I remember COPIRG when I was in college. Sounded like mundane work for little pay. You’ve confirmed my assumptions.
Sounds like your eye is healing as expected!
    Apparently, I’m Marcie. Today anyway.

  3. I feel like its so hard these days to know who to believe and what to believe. Conspiracy theorists used to be a little bit crazy, but not so anymore. We’re learning that many so called ‘theories’ are in fact not theories at all. Young drivers-ugh. We all think we’re great when we’re new at it lol. I guess that confidence helps though. It’s nice to have another driver in the family and hopefully he’s sensible.

  4. I agree with you on #1 – there are too many examples of the gov’t lying to us and shady dealings and so much more, and I’m quite sure there are things about 9/11 and what led to it that they’ve lied about or tried to keep hushed up. I’m also what some would call a conspiracy theorist, but guess what – over the past few years pretty much every one of the theories I held have turned out to be fact!
I’ve never even tried boiled peanuts and I’m not sure they’d appeal to me. Best of luck with your young driver, and I hpe you have a great week!
