Thursday 13 – You know you love the brain bits

  1. I am fully entrenched into Sleep Token, as I have now embraced the newest album. This is by far the most dynamic band I have ever listened to. They’re part metal, funk, R&B, pop, prog… the list goes on because it is literally all there. And in true Ghost fashion, we have no idea who they are. Vessel is a masked man of mystery and he is enigmatic beyond belief. People think it is the dude in this video, but I’m not so sure. Vessel is fricken’ built (see below) even though he’s a bit wiry and sinewy. This video is ten years ago so this little kid could have matured but we may never know! I only just now realized people are thirsting over this unknown singer so that’s also interesting. Either way, I literally cannot get enough of this band.

2. I’m sure it’s a character flaw of mine that I get a little obsessive about bands. My husband couldn’t care less about most music or musicians but I sort of become a little TOO attached to them. I don’t know why; they aren’t special. There’s just something about my personality that lends to becoming engrossed in them.

3. I’m back to running, even though the emergence of Summer is so NOT the time to return to outdoor physical activity. I just need it back in my life. I have done four 2 mile runs and then yesterday, I did sprints. Those are tough, man, but so worth it. I remember a year ago when I started with those, my overall training was better and I was, on average, 1-2 minutes faster than normal. I am going to try and keep it up all summer because it’s so much better for my mental health.

4. Sometimes, when it’s really quiet at work and most people are out, I miss Jack, our temp for Session. I mentioned him before but he was such a nice addition to the office. Young, smart, a good conversationalist. I told you how almost every lady in here could be found, at one point or another, chatting with him. So it wasn’t just me, you know. We had a little birthday get-together in the front area of our suite about 3 weeks ago and one of my co-workers mused, out of nowhere, that she too missed Jack. I hope he’s doing well with his move to Atlanta to go to grad school. I am sure next session’s temp won’t be as good, though we did all agree that it should be a guy. They’ve hired women in the past and it didn’t go over well.

5. On that note, I do think most women are disinclined to get along with other women. I believe it is in their nature.

6. But also on that note, if it weren’t for the friends I already have, I don’t think I’d be making any new girl friends. I have no interest in getting caught up in new peoples’ BS, but that’s how it always seems when I meet new people. I don’t have time or energy for bringing in new folks. I will stick to the people I know already and see them as needed.

7. I never mentioned the whole Tina Turner death – mostly because I don’t get all hung up on celebrity deaths – but I feel like she’s one where no one was like “Oh, I didn’t care for her.” I mean, she had some classy songs that everyone knew.

8. Brew club tonight and I am kind of excited for it; we usually have a good time. The style of the month is kolsch, a good summer beer.

9. NO plans at all this weekend, which sounds odd, for us. You know how we are always running around like crazy. Chances are, plans will materialize. It’s just how it goes. I do plan to vacuum the pool and probably swim. (After I wrote this one, the neighbors said they might go out on their pontoon boat; they’re notoriously wishy-washy so we’ll see but like I said, plan materialize.)

10. I’m going to the eye surgeon on Monday so he can do a thorough once-over before scheduling my cataract surgery. I got a call from them to verify my info, even though they got most of it from the other eye doc, but they asked if I had gotten either the flu or covid vaccines and, um, it felt weird to say no, even though it is true and I have to tell them the truth. I think the stigma around not getting the covid jab has waned now, thankfully, but it made me nervous.

11. On that note, and not to be too political, but what our country did during Covid did indeed violate the Nuremburg Code and if you read about it and really look, it’s totally and completely obvious. And an egregious violation that is, honesty, pretty damn shocking. Mostly because so many people bought in and allowed it to happen. So if you think the rules and laws passed after WW2 made it so we’d never see another tragedy like the Holocaust, think again.

12. I am, generally speaking, a good 15-30 pounds lighter than I was at any point after having kids in 2007 and before Covid. However, my wedding ring, for some reason, does not fit right anymore. Even with throwing more keto in to reduce inflammation, I cannot get it over this knuckle. SO I bought one of those sporty silicone ones. It’s just a plain thin black band but I love it. It doesn’t feel restrictive at all and it fits snugly but bends enough over the knuckle. I am secretly hoping that one day, Ash will take the diamonds from this and put them on a new band. The ring is 80-90 years old, as it was his grandmother’s, and it is missing a couple tiny diamonds as it is. It just needs a reboot.

13. This morning, I decided to go back into Spotify, which I kind of hate, and craft a sexy songs playlist, because Mista Bone by Great White came on in the car. I like crafting playlists, even though Spotify has way too many ads and I refuse to pay for Premium. I am currently listening to the Flashdance soundtrack. Now THAT is sexy.

  1. It seems many people take up/ return to running in the summer (more time) or dead of winter (new years resolutions) – both not ideal, but glad you’re back to it.
A bunch of women coworkers can become full of drama, it’s tricky when introducing someone new. I think there’s often an undertone of competition always present.
Looking back on 2020 and thinking about the Nuremburg Code, it’s creepy how quickly and easily that happened.

  2. My ring got so tight it almost cut off my finger. My sister-in-law, who’s a jeweler, was able to take a very small coping saw, run the blade under the ring, and saw through it, then was able to take a piece of gold and make it bigger. I think just about any jeweler can do the same. Might be worth it.

I have Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer all on premium, and I keep coming back to Spotify, mostly because I have the most experience with it. It’s worth the $10 a month…
