1. April 13th is National Scrabble Day…are you a fan? Do you enjoy word games in general? What’s an eight letter word that tells us something about your life currently?
Yes! I love it but no one will play with me, for fear they’ll lose, I guess. I play Words with Friends online with my dad, where he beats me 3/4 of the time. So yes, I do enjoy them because I love words and figuring out the best ones. I thought about “frenetic” as a good eight letter word for our lives right now. I am almost always busy and when we’re not, I try to fill in those gaps so I’m hopping from thing to thing.
2. Do you have a junk drawer? Is it full? Do you know what’s in it? What’s in it?
LOL yes. We have what I call a “utility” drawer for batteries, flashlights, twist ties, etc and it’s a mess. We also have a drawer where I mostly keep my essential oils but it had become the place where I keep extra cash, gift cards, pens, pencils, markers, and other things I might get to in the short term. If we can’t find something, it is probably there.
3. When does time pass quickly for you? When does it pass slowly?
Somehow, the last 30 minutes of my days lately pass quickly, but I think it’s because when you’ve been here for like, 10.5 hours, you can stomach the last little bit. It goes slowly, usually on Tuesday mornings.
4. These eight vegetables are in season during spring-asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, celery, collard greens, garlic, herbs. What’s your favorite? Any on the list you refuse to eat? Last one on the list you ate?
I like all those but will put asparagus up there because if cooked right, it’s SO good. That is actually probably the last one I ate, Saturday. Though if we’re going for just “herbs” we had cilantro on our tacos on Sunday. I will eat all of those. I’m not really one to cut things out entirely. I used to hate limas but I’ve grown to like them ok. Is fennel an herb? Because I am not all that fond of that one.
5. What’s the oldest thing you own? Tell us about it.
I guess it’s probably the globe that my father-in-law got from his grandfather. I don’t have a picture of it but you can tell it is old. It’s about waist-height, brass features, a generally gold/yellow color world. It is solid and if it doesn’t get messed with, that thing will last forever.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
It would appear that showing my son a bit of weakness was all it took for his attitude to shift. He was being downright mean and just angry, difficult to approach. Then yesterday, he didn’t tell me his afternoon plan, like he normally does. Typically he tells me if he’s going to the gym first or someone’s house before. But he didn’t say anything and after the night before when he bemoaned how awful his life is because he had to – gasp! – clean the dishes he dirtied, I was worried he really meant it when he said he didn’t plan to come home. You know as a parent, one of the concerns is that no matter how good you are to them or how well you think you parented, the outside influences can get them. So I went through this whole fear cycle but when he finally told me he was at the gym (hours after schools) I told him I’d been worried. When he got home he was apologetic, kind, and went right out to pull his weeds. Then this morning, we really got along and he was in a good mood. I bet I was the same way, if we’re being honest. I just don’t remember.
I am surprised it is already Wednesday; the weekend will be busy and not – Friday night dinner for Isaac’s birthday, Saturday he has soccer and then his party at 6 at night (he’s turning 13!), and then Sunday I can catch up on stuff. Ash is going to a card tournament and there’s really no other plans. I am pretty excited about that. I need some time to just putter around and get stuff put away!
Frenetic is a great word! I had to go with a nine-letter one.
I too am surprised that it’s Wednesday already!
And that antique globe sounds absolutely amazing.
Just from reading your blog, I would say your 8 letter word is a very appropriate description of your life!! Also, I laughed out loud about your comment about the junk drawer . . .”if we can’t find something, it is probably there.” Last but not least, is fennel the one that tastes like licorice? I don’t like it very much.
You know, I think fennel DOES have that licorice taste. Funny thing is I like black jelly beans ok. Just seems like fennel doesn’t belong in food.
I have an old globe also from an Aunt that taught history. Thanks for sharing your post.
I remember someone saying old world globes are fetching a pretty penny these days. With changing borders and country names, I can see how they’re becoming collectors’ items.
Great job coming up with that 8 letter word. So far all the words I’ve seen on other blogs could apply. Glad you had a soft moment with your son. The old globe sounds interesting. Fun conversation piece. Have a good rest of the week!
The globe sounds interesting. Great 8-letter word!
I have a friend who collects globes and has some really beautiful ones in her collection. Your word sounds right. Happy birthday to your son!
So you must be pretty good at Scrabble. Your drawers sound pretty good. I don’t care for limas either. Your globe sounds really nice. I hope things continue to stay that way with you and your son. Enjoy the rest of your week. Happy Birthday to Isaac.
I love scrabble. Though by the 8 letter word you chose, you’d probably beat me. Being a parent sure has it’s moments doesn’t it. Sounds like you handled it well. I hope he had a good party.
