1. Sum up your November in ten words or less.
New job, so so busy, ending in a frustrating way
2. Are you hosting any holiday parties this year? Attending any? Party pooper, party animal, or life of the party…where do you land when it comes to parties?
Both. We are going to one on the 10th, though there’s something else going on that day so we may be late. We host our second annual Xmas party the week after and I think I’m so overwhelmed by other stuff I haven’t even really planned! I am usually one to mingle about but I am not the life of the party.
3. Do you purchase holiday clothing of any sort (sparkly tops, Christmas jammies, Santa suit, etc).
Not usually, but I did get two themed sweaters the past few years. Sometimes I get socks.
4. What’s your go-to recipe when you’re asked to bring an hors d’oeuvre to a party?
Either deviled eggs or I’ll make a charcuterie. I got really into making those last year but haven’t done one lately. I really like trying to organize everything on the block. It’s like Tetris.
5. December 3rd is National Play Outside Day…what might you do to celebrate?
We’ll be in Dallas so I will definitely be outside at some point. I’m hoping to make time for a trip to the Ft. Worth Stockyards.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Everything is so frustrating. I mentioned before that my son got a concussion about a week and a half ago in a game. The athletic trainer said I may want follow up at the concussion clinic, then the parents and coaches in our group chat said she could clear him so long as it was before the next game. He went to see her today and she said he HAD to go to the clinic. THEN, his coach said so long as I was ok with it, he could play. THEN the main coach said he did indeed have to got to said clinic. (For the record, this head injury was way minor compared to one he had 3 years ago and when I went to the clinic, they were like, “he’s fine, why are you here?”) So I sat on hold for almost an hour to schedule an appointment and the lady I finally got said I had to call the concussion clinic directly. I call them and they said I had to make the appointment through main scheduling! OMG!!! So now, I have called our urgent care center through insurance to see if they can do the required test. Normally the Urgent Care calls back within 15-20 mins but it’s been 40! I mean, come on. I have so much to deal with this week and now this??
Ok it’s Wednesday now and in the end I got through to the clinic and have an appointment for 8:45 this morning. I made Elliot go to his game even though he couldn’t play. There were 7 kids who didn’t play anyway because of the team they were against. They lost of course, because the other team is ridiculous but that’s ok; my friends’ kids are on it so I got to sit with friends and see soccer. Not a bad evening. We were the embodiment of this meme I’ve seen on mom groups that says “everyone has practice so we either eat at 4 or 9”. Truth! Dakota had gotten home slightly after Ash left with Elliot then she hung out with the neighbors and came home to get ready for dance then Ash took her and went to an HOA meeting. I snagged Isaac and went to the game then Ash got Koda and once all home, I cooked up the rest of some ground beef that had to get eaten and put taco seasoning in, then mixed it with some leftover tacos meat. Elliot had frozen tacos and cheese dip, Koda made pizza rollups from tortillas, Isaac wanted breakfast food. So I was bustling around the kitchen for a while! But it was nice to keep moving after work. Sometimes I just sit and feel lazy. I was proud of myself too because I did a couple things I’d meant to, as well as all the dishes after our choose your own adventure meal. And I didn’t even fall asleep in my chair until 10!
So today, I took Elliot to his appointment and then dropped him off as school and went straight to work, in some pretty crappy and sudden rain.. This evening, we have brew club EC meeting combo with a happy hour. We have to to go it because Ash and I are now on the committee. I was already doing some of the things for publication manager but now it’s official. He’s VP so he’ll have to step up a wee bit.
I missed the concussion thing. Sorry. Always hard to deal with illnesses or all types with your kids. Tiring. I do charcuterie boards a lot. Love to get cheese from the Cheese Lady. I also love deviled eggs. Have a good day.
Yes, all that kid stuff gets exasperating. And deviled eggs are my fave!
I hate getting the run around when making phone calls!! We had crazy rain with thunder and lightning and wind last night!!
Yeah there was a huge band of storms that came through west to east, as per usual, but it moved fairly quickly, thankfully.
Hi,
I got into doing charcuterie boards last year. I love creating them.
Sending Hugs!!!!
Carla
They’re super fun to create! Not really cheap though, sadly. It can add up quickly.
Wow! Sounds very hectic. Glad you got him an appointment and I hope all is well.
Thanks; me too!
I think I missed the concussion news but so glad he’s okay. I guess you’re watching World Cup too? We’re fans, my daughter went to uni with a player on the US team and is friends with his wife. It’s fun to have a jersey we know. Enjoy the parties and the get togethers and hanging out with friends. Hopefully all your activity takes a pause for the holidays and you can come back somewhat refreshed to a busy schedule in January. I remember these days well and they are brutal in terms of figuring out dinner, carpools, being in two place at one time, who is getting who where. Whew! Go easy on yourself! And good job getting dishes done. I can’t stand to come into the kitchen in the morning and see dishes.
Yes! We are big soccer fans, though don’t really follow the US team, sad as that sounds. I’m a Liverpool person myself. And yes, the carpool/picking up, dropping off thing is a real hassle but it somehow always gets done!
Sorry about your son’s concussion and the hoops you had to jump through with the clinics. Oye. Hope your 2nd annual party comes together nicely. Happy December to you!
The whole “can he or can’t he play?” thing sounds like they don’t talk to each other…
Just so you know, I am completely exhausted after reading your one night recap. I sure don’t miss the hectic life of parenting, but I do miss those days of watching our kids grow and flourish. Now, all my grands are grown and I get to now watch my two greats grow and flourish. Hang in there, there are rewards coming.
i love deviled eggs. I’m so sorry about the frustration. i’m thankful in all the years my girls played soccer they didn’t have any concussion. My daughter and son in law were in Ft. Worth for 6 months and we went to visit..the stockyards are pretty cool.
