Answer these as best you can:
—QUESTIONS–
5.) Would you like to be more or less aware of things happening in the world?
—ANSWERS–
1.) I would say I know about 50-60% of what is going on. In the car, I like to listen to HLN so I get a smattering of news. I used to check MSNBC every day but after a while, you realize that if it isn’t a fluff story, then it’s terribly depressing. One can only take so much.
2.) As stated above, I get my news from the internet, mostly. But, I do sometimes watch local news. The problem is that it is very poorly produced.
3.) I have to say, I find out about a lot of things via Twitter. I like it that way too because it feels like we’re all sharing the experience together.
4.) I don’t know if it counts as news but it has gotten a lot of coverage lately: our student union for grad students (who also teach, as I did) recently pushed for full health coverage and they got it (I think.) UF offers it so their argument was why go to FSU if they can go two more hours and get more? Good job, TAs. Those are my people.
5.) In some ways, I wish I understood the importance of some of the things going on (like this Syria issue) but at the same time, I am really happy living in my bubble with my family and worrying about that only. However, I am aware that knowing about the things going on in the world may be useful as they impact my family, at some point.
I just wish things didn’t get over reported. I feel the news reports things into the ground. Makes me not care after a while.
I hope to get around to answering the questions this afternoon sometime, but with a crying baby who is not handling teething well I am only getting a few minutes at a time to sit at the computer………….
I feel the same way – on one hand I want to know more about what is going on, but on the other I would like to live in my little happy bubble.
I feel the same way as your #5 answer. I’m such a worry-wart that it’s nice to not hear about all the sadness in the world, but at the same time it’s important to know what’s going on in the world.
I’d have to agree with your frame of mind…. I’d love to be more aware of what’s going on in the world, but I’m also perfectly content in my ignorance!
