Friday Confessions – Post holiday holiday

I confess… I love this holiday weekend: seems like most of town has gone on vacation or is lying low; the roads were pretty darn empty today but I had to work. Thanks for the open spaces and… blue skies!

I confess… I really did cry a little when the sun came out briefly on my drive into work. It came out yesterday morning too and it was amazing. However, and sadly, we’re supposed to get another 3-5 inches before the weekend is over. But the hourly forecast does show more sun at some point. I NEED IT!

I confess… after we did our piddly little fireworks (the 10 dollar box) we moseyed down to our neighbours’, where we saw them doing some. Turns out, it was them and a few other people we know from the ‘hood (mostly because we see them walking dogs). They had the 40 dollar box and some good ones! Let the kids stay up way late but they enjoyed the show.

I confess… I’ve been applying to more online jobs to replace the one that went away so I have been checking email A LOT. I know I won’t get a response until I start to let it go and I’m not so obsessive about it.

I confess… I think I just offended someone by talking about something that I don’t think offends anyone (sitting cross-legged = Indian Style, not criss-cross applesauce.) Sigh. Someone is always going to be offended. I am not going to live my life being hyper-sensitive about it. I don’t say obviously racial things but some things like that are just so tiny, people need to find some new hobbies if that’s going to bother them.

OK, that’s it. I have work to do and they’re sending up home by 1. So… ttyl!

  1. I think your Indian style comment is an example of something everyone said when we were little, but now isn’t all that good to say. Another example is “Easy Peasy Japaneesy.” I used to say that all the time when I taught the little kids…until I started seeing Asians in my classroom and figured that wasn’t the best thing to say.

I know it makes other people seem over sensitive when you are prevented from saying something that is normal for you, but I am certain that is why we teachers now say “criss cross applesauce” instead of “Indian style.” It’s just not culturally sensitive. I’d rather be sensitive about it and preserve someone’s feelings than keep saying what I’ve always said and offend the few it would have in the first place.

  2. I am with you on the sunshine/rain thing. We are so busy at work (we are a restoration company) with flooded basements, which is good. But I’m running out of happy thoughts to keep the fairy dust going with all the grey skies!

  3. I so miss the sunshine. The rain is great for the garden, but I need more than 30 minutes of sun at a time.

Glad you had such a great July 4th and that the kids go to have some fun with the fireworks.

Thanks for linking up for Friday Confessional. Have a fabulous weekend!
