Random (Talk to us) Tuesday – Get on the bus!

Stacy

Seriously Shawn

Let me first say, EFF YOU, TUESDAY. Started off not so hot but I bound and determined to turn this day around.

  • It’s a breezy 70 degrees this morning and it feels glorious!
  • Over the weekend, we saw both Lawless and Wanderlust. Here are my disjointed thoughts on each: Tom Hardy, where have you been all my life? Cardigans are NOT a good look. Guy Pearce is an amazing bad guy. / I had no earthly idea what Justin Theroux really looked like;  only ever just heard the Aniston related news. I laughed my ass off even though I though it would suck. Paul Rudd is a great actor.
  • If you missed my Monday post, I am no longer running the marathon. It’s decided and I am moving on with my life. I am training for some halfs and other various races but I just can’t do this one. Sorry, Savannah.
  • I have been indoctrinated into the world of Doctor Who. I began last week with the season premier and I have to say, though a million blogs on tumblr ship that show, I had no “real” idea of what it entailed. But I like it!
  • I am considering having my students do a freewrite on where they were when 9/11 happened but they were, like, 7. I was older than that even when the Gulf War was going on and I walked around for an entire two weeks believing that Hussein was going to send missiles directly to South Florida.
  • But maybe it will be good for them; their first paper is all about important memories.
  • I was just waking up to go to class… Ash, Chris, Steve and I gathered in our living room and just sat, watching. FSU was closed in the morning but we had class in the afternoon, though I can barely remember because it seemed like everyone was in a daze. The full weight really did not hit me, even though my day was working in New Jersey just across the Hudson at the time. I remember calling him and he said he could just see billowing smoke across the river. It was weeks later that I found out he’d originally had a meeting in the Twin Towers scheduled for 9/11; they had moved it to 9/10 and he was safely in Jersey when the planes hit.
  • My archive of men is taking a hiatus so I may be forced to look elsewhere. For today though, I can still offer you these tasty treats (why NOT two?) :

  1. Everyone has distinct memories of 9/11. That will be a day none of us will ever forgot NEVER! To be honest, I hope we don’t because we need to feel like we are just as vulnerable as other countries to evil doers. It would be wonderful if all the wicked people could be crushed beneath our feet like grapes and all peaceful loving people could live as such in harmony. This is a fantasy, I know. But, we can always dream it can be like this, right?

Fall is coming. For the past couple of mornings we have woken to temperatures in the upper 50s. Mind you it’s 5am when the outdoor thermometer reads this, but it’s really refreshing. I just love it! Our climate is relatively mild year round with only spurts of extreme temps. Over all, I’m delighted to be living here. It suits us perfectly! =D Have a great day randomizing!

  2. I can’t tell how old I ws when the Oklahoma City Bombing happened, but I wasn’t that old and I can tell you where I was, so at 7 years old, I’ll bet most students have some recollection of where they were or what they were doing. Now a 4 year old, probably not so much ;). haha!

  3. I still remember vividly where I was when someone told me what was happening. I remember watching the images on TV, but then I was 28 at the time.
It has definitely cooled off here–we are hitting the 40s at night and the mid to upper 70s during the day now. It’s lovely outside.

  4. I love Paul Rudd…he’s one of my favourites. I still haven’t seen that movie, I’ll have to rent it!
I like the idea of getting your students to write about where they were on 9/11. I did that on my blog last year, I think it was the first time I actually wrote down “my story”…it was such a crazy, terrifying day, and it’s sort of surreal to remember exactly how my day played out.

  5. I watched Wonderlust at the theater with a few girlfriends and we LAUGHED almost the entire time! It was so freakin’ funny! My favorite part is when Paul Rudd is talking to himself in the mirror. He was trying to psych himself up for a little fling. But I heard Lawless was horrible. So you liked it ok?
Being from Oklahoma and having the bombings hit OKC and then having the WTC events on 9/11 have left scars on me. It is such stupidity (on their part) and such tragedy (on ours) that it just makes you feel blessed to still be here.

Thanks for linking up! LOOK WHO’S COMMENTING!!! ME!

  6. I want to get into Doctor Who! I want to start with previous seasons because I’m afraid I’ll feel lost. But if you’re not, then maybe I’ll start with the new premiere? I need to check out Wanderlust. I love Paul Rudd!
