What I did with my weekend + 80s MMMM

Dearest readers,

Did you have a good weekend? I did too! (Ok, that was me in the 80s; the 7 year old version who, in 1986, really liked  the songs I feature below.)

Anyway, Ash and I hit up Longhorn steakhouse on Friday and then saw In Time. Despite so-so reviews, I really liked it. There were a lot of logistical problems but all in all, good plot. And a lot of hot guys to boot! We did the whole pick up kids/grocery shop/run/make dinner thing when we finished and then Ash went off to play cards. Isaac was particularly fussy and I was nearing my rope’s end so we took a little dusk-time drive to Starbucks. The drive calmed down the boy and the latte made me happy.

Saturday morning was relatively uneventful; Ash ran, Elliot and I went to the store for a birthday gift and then my neighbour asked me to take her dog out while she was out hocking her hand-made jewelery. In return, she gave me two tickets for a chicken dinner from the local high school band fundraiser. It was supposedly BBQ chicken, which I was sure Ash wouldn’t eat. So I planned a meal of mac and cheese and green beans then went to get the chicken. I got two meals, both came with a big piece of chicken, corn bread, baked beans and cole slaw. Well, Ash ate the chicken – I was shocked – and the cornbread was great. The kids helped me polish off the rest and then we all napped after that huge lunch.

In the afternoon, we went to one of Ell’s classmate’s birthday party. It was nice but I have to say, ours was better-run and more successful. Yeah, I’m bragging but his 4th b-day went so ridiculously well, I can’t help but judge others against it. The kids were worn out from the party so Isaac went to bed early and Ell fell asleep watching Cars. I then fell asleep watching the LSU/Alabama game.

Ash had to run 16 miles on Sunday so I took the kids to get bagels and then to the grocery store. When we got back, they played outside for a while and I tried to get various household things done.

The rest of the day was more bike-riding, football, another big meal (I feel like we ate a lot this weekend) and an early bedtime for all, seeing as how the time changed. In fact, we were all up super early today, but not yesterday, for which I am thankful.

So yes, I love the 80s. My dad used to let me watch a lot of TV when I was little so I spent much time in front of Mtv in its early stages, when people put effort into music videos and hell, the channel played music!

Here are a few of my favorites that I loved as a kid; these were MY songs, you know?

I used to think David Lee Roth was hot!

Another one of my favorites; Huey Lewis. I used to like the shark part. LOL.

And Billy Joel. Great song and video.

Ok folks, there you have it. Hope you had a good weekend and I bid you a good week.
