Sort of like a weekend recap

So yes, my little mini-vacation mid-week was all I expected and more. Ok ok, that’s a bit of a stretch but it was quite relaxing. Tuesday evening, Ash and I went to the movie theater to procure tickets before dinner. They had an 11 PM showing of Transformers in the DLP theater so we went to dinner then home for about an hour and a half before going back to the theater to wait in line. And it’s a good thing we got there around 10 because there was a line. What was most interesting about the people in line is that the majority of them weren’t old enough to have seen the cartoon in its original form and first run in the 80s. Scary, you know?

So the movie: fantastic. Well performed, good adaptation for what it’s worth. I even thought Shia LeBeouf did a good job and the dialogue for the majority of it was pretty witty. It could have had SO many more autobots, could have gotten more of the original voices, (could have had the Dinobots but that’s just me), should have slowed down the action more times than they did. But all in all, I was pretty impressed. Sidenote: my background with Transformers is as follows: watched the cartoon as a child, owned a few toys, was basically forced to understand and learn when Ash went through a collect every single one of them phase about 3-4 years ago. He was trying to re-live his childhood I think and to this day, we own a lot of those toys and various other Transformers swag. I wanted to throw that out there since now people will be jumping back on that bandwagon. Heh heh.

And as an aside, all of our computers have Transformer names; mine is Grimlock.

I slept in Wednesday morning but not nearly as much as Ash, who finally crawled from the warmth of sheets and dogs by 11 and only when his phone rang. To pass the morning, I started to watch Batman Begins because I hadn’t seen it in a while. We went to lunch at this newer Mexican place – El Jaslisco #5 – and although it did not, and could not possibly, live up to El Chico standards, it was pretty darn tasty. A friend of ours was in town and he and some other people were having a 4th o’ July barbecue. I opted not to go for a couple reasons. One being that I wasn’t feeling all that social. The other that I am getting a wee bit tired of fielding all those pregnancy questions. They’re always the same: “When are you due? Oh, do you know, boy or girl? Are you excited?” NO, I’m pissed off and sad as hell. Of course I’m excited!!  Sometimes I just don’t feel like going through the motions anymore.

So I stayed home and napped and cleaned and weed-whacked and bought stuff for hamburgers. After we indulged in those, Ash and I took our normal 2 mile walk, seeing lots of fireworks along the way and almost getting caught in the rain. It was a good brisk walk, which made me realize how much I need to keep that up if I am serious about going back to my pre-pregnancy weight come October or so. I will not be a fat mom. I just won’t.

Unfortunately, today feels a lot like Monday. Not that Mondays are bad but it doesn’t have the aura of a Thursday, where the weekend is right around the corner and you have the feeling in the back of your mind all day. It just feels like I have a long way to go until another day off. One week from tomorrow, my sister, mom and possibly my aunt are coming up for my baby shower. Make the time slow down, please!

So, off to get some work done. Hope everyone had a good fourth.

  1. On either side of me are two of the largest student apartment communities in Gainesville, so Jessica and I got a good show of some very powerful legal (and I’m sure less than legal) fireworks until the wee hours of the morning. I played golf, too. And my students were braindead this morning.
