Hello Monday – THIS close to calling out

I shouldn’t say that; I’m not really going to. But sometimes when I enjoy my weekend, I find myself really thinking about continuing it. Doesn’t help that just before I woke up, I had a dream where I was telling someone about how I had sick leave that carried over from last year so yeah, totally fine if I take a day. But all teachers know that sometimes it’s worse to have to make sub plans than just going and doing it yourself.

Anyway, Friday. Work was fine; the day actually went kind of quickly, I’d say. Headed home and watched the majority of the afternoon Premiere league game before our meeting up at Growler. Despite the place still being kind of a hodge podge and having a tight table setup, their food is still good. They fixed the prior AC problem too. Anyway, the meeting was pretty successful and we even finally booted a member who has given us nothing but trouble since he arrived.

After that, we drove clear across town to meet a friend for another fantasy football draft. I’m not in the league but went along anyway. One of our other friends came with so I did have someone else to talk to. The place we’d chosen to meet was super crowded but mainly outside listening to the band. We were able to get a nice table in the back. We were definitely out too late for my liking but sometimes that happens.

My son was also out and I’m not sure I am prepared for this stage. So, he did not go the college route. He never really liked school. Anyway, he has a full time job and is actually quite responsible. But now, he’s for friends in college and with college houses and, well, he didn’t even come home Friday night. He did communicate though. My biggest worry is getting towed. It was an issue when I was there and I can’t imagine much has changed. I let him take my car that night because his has a headlight out. He parked in the “safe” lot next to his girlfriend’s dorm. Apparently (and I only found this out later) they were towing because of game day so he was walking back and saw that all but two cars had been taken – mine and his girlfriend’s friend’s. Whew! At that point he said they called the FSU info line to find out which lots were safe and he moved it. He called me Saturday morning while he was walking to that lot and we all held our collective breath as we waited to see if it was still there. Thankfully it was!

Once he was home, I was a lot more relieved. It also happened to be his 19th birthday so we gave him his gifts. We already had Sunday lunch plans so he went and got himself bagels. In between soccer matches I went to the store, made guacamole and fajita chicken, and tidied up the house. We didn’t have many other plans. My son was going to go to the game but changed his mind when he couldn’t get a ticket near his girlfriend. He ended up going to campus with a friend and watching it there. I fell asleep by halftime!

Sunday morning we left before 8 and got about a 3.6 mile walk in. The weather was actually pretty cool, for August. Hope that’s an indication of what our fall will be like. That would be quite nice! We watched soccer until it was time for lunch and we all took Elliot and his girlfriend out for his birthday. That was pretty nice; went to a place we used to go all the time. Turns out that have brunch on Sundays too so I had shrimp and grits. After, they hung out, Dakota had a friend over and swam and made cookies, and to our surprise, my middle came down and played some bowling with us before going to work.

All in all, a pretty good weekend, though I feel unprepared for the week ahead. There’s just so much going on, all the time. For example, the link for securing my daughter a spot for the 8th grade DC trip opened today and it felt so rushed – and expensive! When Isaac went 3 years ago it cost me a little under 1k. It’s quite a bit more now, sadly. Dang inflation. Later this week, we have another fantasy draft right after work. I need to figure out what’s going on Friday at work; the kids have a half day but it’s full for us. But why? We sometimes do this thing were we go to the other Catholic school but someone said they didn’t think we were. So then, what are we doing?? Thankfully though, this weekend is a 3-day because of Labor day. Heck yeah!
