Yes, feeling a little worn today; the weekend was full of activity!
Friday for lunch, Ash and I thought we’d try to hit hibachi, this time maybe without busloads of camp kids. Indeed, it was basically empty. We met a friend and our son came with, and we were seated with just one other couple. Everyone ordered steak of some kind but the other couple wanted theirs well done (gross!). I guess when the chef delivered it to them, they were unsatisfied and he told them to put it back on. Ok, fine, we didn’t even care. But when the check came, the waitress said they’d given us a discount because the chef is not supposed to allow food to leave the grill and then return to it. Well, no complaints because they gave us 50% off! Nice little surprise.
Ash and I decided to watch movies and drink beer in the afternoon/evening and it was fun, for once. Sometimes bowling is annoying because our high scores are so high, it’s impossible to feel like you’re getting anywhere close to success. But we found some that night and it was a nice.
Saturday was a day to catch up on things like house cleaning and laundry. We had sandwiches for lunch before heading up to Thomasville to the 1861 distillery. Our friend was turning 50 and his wife planned a “surprise” party, though of course he was wise to it long before. It was nice though; almost everyone who was invited was able to be there and celebrate. He’s not one for big gatherings but you only turn 50 once! Having never been before, we had an aged spirits flight and then settled on pours of the ones we liked best.
I don’t recall what time we left but it was maybe late afternoon, in the rain. Isaac had come with us since he’s friends with their son, so that was nice as well. We came home and just watched movies, I believe. I know I was TIRED. Oh, that’s right; my son’s girlfriend was over and they went to get Chinese. And because I’m a glutton, I partook. LOL. I probably didn’t need any more food but I can’t pass up crab rangoon.
Sunday morning, I eased into the day. We had plans to have people over for the final World Cup game so I knew I had things to prep. I made guacamole around 8 but didn’t start cooking the chicken until around 12:30. I made the chicken fajitas I’ve recently gotten into and then kept them warm in the crockpot. People arrived between 1:30 and 2, and we ate a variety of salsas and dips, as well as the chicken. All good stuff. We did some bottle sharing as well and that would have been ok if it weren’t for the fact that we drank way too late. I mean, I think our last guest didn’t leave until 8:45. Ah well. As much as I claim to be an introvert, I really do like hanging out with people and I am sometimes reluctant to stop the good times.
This morning, I got up and had my coffee and took an Aleve; hopefully that’ll help. Started taking my daughter to camp but she’s had this on-going congestion – no fever or anything – and I said you know what? Why don’t you just stay home today. So we turned around, hit the store (I also got a breakfast biscuits because sometimes that’s the best thing for days like today) and now here I am, trying to get started on my online work. I kind of wanted to walk, even though I didn’t go at our typical 7 am time, but the rain’s coming in now. Seems like a good day to just lay low and chill.

Sounds like a great weekend minus the headache today :). My husband really wanted friends to come over to watch the 3rd place game but we asked way too late- they had plans already. Your get together sounds really nice. So does the 50th birthday party. I was in the beginning stages of planning a surprise 50th party for my husband. I had the coolest location for it and even put a deposit down. Then I had to have surgery unexpectedly and had no idea what my recovery would be like except that I wouldn’t be driving for a long time. I could not imagine not being able to drive to get things done (even though I know I could have ordered a lot through Amazon for delivery) so I scrapped the idea and forfeited my deposit :(. All that to say, I do agree that a 50th birthday is worthy of a celebration and a surprise one if that can be worked out even better :).
Agreed; it would be frustrating for me as well, not being able to do the planning and all that. I like things done a certain way. Maybe you can plan another party, even if it isn’t a milestone birthday. I know this friend of ours was originally wanting to do the Bourbon Trail – we talked about it for years – but they scrapped that at the last minute. My husband says if no one else in our friend group chooses that before he turns 50, that’s the plan.
Sounds like a nice weekend. The party sounds like fun. We haven’t done a hibachi meal in a long time but they’re always fun and I bet my grandsons would really enjoy it. I think there’s one in the next town over so I need to check. Sorry ’bout the headache. Have a nice week!
Sounds like a nice weekend socializing. I’m similar with thinking I’m an introvert, but I’ve gotta get out regularlyt among the people. I think I’m just “introverted” around annoying people 😉
