Hello Monday – busy weekend as always!

Man, what a busy weekend!

Friday, Ash had a half day so while I had suggested Carrabba’s because we have a gift card, he set up hibachi with some friends as well. We got there and two entire buses of camp kids were coming in and they had reserved all the spots. I was pretty bummed about it but we did mexican instead, which was good. We came home and did a little cleaning/prep for our Saturday party, then sat down to watch both soccer and a movie. One of the old 80s horrors we’d never seen was An American Werewolf in London and it turned out to be pretty good! I know we did a little bowling but I believe we basically just watched movies and soccer.

Saturday morning found me up bright and early, messing with the pool. I don’t know why I even bother; every time we host our brew club summer party, I tell people the pool is open but no one ever swims. And yet, I work on it. I vacuumed and brushed and all that, since my pool guy comes on Mondays and so, by the time Saturday rolls around, it’s fine for family but not really guests. Anyway, we got it looking nice then I began on the main food. Again, we had Mexican! We typically do either pizza or a Boston butt for this event but I went in a different direction. I made 3 pounds of beef and seasoned it, then threw it in a crock pot to warm. I made 5 packages of chicken tenderloins in the fajita style. The sheet pan method is so good! I also kept them warm in a crockpot and I think that is what made them so juicy. People raved about it anyway. We had a ton of food and eight pale ale entries for the competition. Our newest member actually ended up winning, which was cool. The last person to leave didn’t do so until probably 8 or 9, which made for a long day.

Sunday, I got up and did the laundry and made a pizza for Ash. I had some dumplings and then we went to our friend’s house for another bottle share, since he’d just gone to Ashville. That was fun, but kind of amusing that the seven of us who went had also been at my house the day before. But good people and all who appreciate sampling different beer. We didn’t get home until maybe 7 and I was so tired! It’s exhausting being the host but I do like it. In fact, we plan to have people over next Sunday for the final World Cup game. It’s always a good reason to clean my house anyway!

  1. I love the idea of Mexican for a crowd. It’s easy and everyone seems to love it and can pick and choose what they want to include in theirs. Hosting is a lot of work. It’s nice to be the guest sometimes. Have a great week!

  2. Hosting is the best incentive I have for cleaning up the house and the outside as well. I guess I should be internally motivated or motivated for my family to have a nice, clean space but alas the latter does not seem like enough ;). Your weekend sounds nice- glad your food turned out good and the company was fun. That’s a lot of meat! I didn’t realize the final is next weekend but I guess it makes sense. It will be weird when the World Cup is over…
