- Originally, we had planned to take the bikes down to the trail and do around 16-20 miles; the four of us, since my daughter is still visiting a friend. It was a little dream of mine; we’d ride out and back then get one of those delicious biscuits from the gas station eatery. Sounds crazy I know. But anyway, I told the boys 7:30 and we set alarms. It’s now nine and no one else is up. I am sure this is a lesson in letting things go; rolling with the punches.
- I am sure it is a lesson, since yesterday, I was chomping at the bit to do some house projects but my husband was feeling lazy and before I knew it, he was annoyed by my nudges. So I took myself to the bedroom and read for a while and napped, while he figured out how not to be irritable. And when I came back down, he and Isaac were headed out to work on the never-ending root. We didn’t speak until they came in and at that point, he acted like he’d never even been mad at me. Men!
- This morning, in all the glorious quiet time I had to myself, I watched some youtube and just…relaxed. I went to make my second (and final) cup of coffee but alas – my trusty Keurig of 13 years finally crapped out. It did this thing before where, upon the second brew of the morning, it just sat there thinking but not extruding coffee. Today, it did that as well but then made sounds that seemed to be putting the coffee back up inside the water/heating receptacle instead of in the cup!
- Lucky for me, during everyone’s Great Cleanse during Covid, I picked up another machine at the Goodwill. This one looked barely used (i.e. the little cup pictures on the buttons were not worn off) so I purchased it, brought it home for a good deep clean, then put it in a garbage bag up in storage. Well, today I got it out and made that second cup of coffee, which I am enjoying right this moment.
- So yes, today will be a “see how it goes” kind of day. We need to put the Christmas bins back up in the attic and Ash had mentioned going to lunch at a Mexican place he has been going to with a friend (since I cannot leave school for lunch; sigh). We shall see how it goes. We are also making our way through some of the movies that will probably be Oscar noms. We watched The Long Walk last night. It was good but nothing special.
It sounds like you´re taking advantage of your break and relaxing as well as trying to get things done. It´s definitely hard for us to be on the same page, task wise. My husband works so hard during the week and hardly ever takes days off so I feel kinda bad asking him to do all the ¨things¨ on the weekend rather than relax. But I physically can´t do the things that I want done! We had one weekend in 2025 where we were both on the same page and got so much done. But we both had to be in that mindset that it wasn´t going to be a fun filled and/or relaxing weekend. It sounds like your husband is pretty easy going since he a) did do some work and b) seemed chill about it. I hope you enjoy your weekend and that the break was relaxing/recharging for you.
Your bike ride plan sounds fun, and I’m sure it would be for all. But the hardest part is getting out the door!
Good forethought getting that backup Keurig! I hope you enjoy what remains of your break.
