- I was listening to a Frank Sinatra song during lunch and had the strangest desire to call my grandfather. Sadly, he passed in 2022. And it’s funny because it wasn’t some song he and I shared or anything but just the sound of that type of music hearkens back to childhood memories. He puttered in his garage a lot and I wanted to know what he was doing. He often played old-fashioned radio stations on a tiny radio, all tinny and staticky, but it just reminds me so much of simpler times.
- Every night this week I have both gotten a lot done and felt so DONE that I didn’t want to get out of my chair. Tuesday I hit the store but didn’t get everything I really needed so I went back out after making tacos. I also stopped into the dry cleaners for wire hangers for a project. Once home, I felt myself becoming one with my chair, so tired and bereft of moving desire was I. Around 9 Ash asked if I wanted to walk and I declined. He went back to working on a project and we ended up walking at 9:45, for I finally peeled myself from the leather and decided a walk was better for me. And it was; I felt good about it.
- When I worked from home – and also, when it was quiet in my FSU office years ago – I almost always had music in the background while I worked on a task or graded. I got out of the habit here and then early last week, I drummed up XM and some other playlists again and wow, I have been missing out. I am much more productive with something on!
- On my way to work, I pass by the last remaining Beef O’Brady’s, which is not and never really has been, a great restaurant. However, it reminds me of an easier time: when we first joined the homebrew club and met in the back room of the one that was in midtown. They had a pretty large space and gave it to us for free, understanding we’d both be bringing in our own beer but most people would also ordered a few drinks and probably food. I used to get a Mexican bowl with rice, chicken, beans, and sour cream an cheese. Pretty good! I miss the old days before Covid and when we didn’t actually run this club. While we have done awesome things, it’s also just so much easier to attend.
- I feel like we ate and drank so much during the Thanksgiving break and so, this week has been nice: I haven’t eaten very much and we haven’t drank at all. We will tomorrow night, at my faculty party, though I doubt very much. Not sure the situation there; we’ve been told food and drink will be provided but what is it and is it like, these certain things are free and then if you want anything else, that’s on you? You never know, but since it is a private school, who knows what kind of allowance they’ll give us. I mean, during the last break, members of our PTO revamped our faculty lounge and they did fantastic. And made us wonder whose pockets are so deep!
- I’m a little excited about entering our dry Irish stout into our in-club comp on Saturday. It turned out really well. Based on the other members’ we’ve tasted thus far, we could see a re-do of the Italian Pilsner competition in terms of the top 3. We could be up there!
- In my Junior Honors class, we are watching the Sidney Poitier movie Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, because it mirrors some sentiments that were in another short story about race relations. So far, they really like it and it’s better than I remember. I love movie days in class!
I need to rewatch that movie! I haven’t thought about it in years. How nice that the parents redid the lounge – and did it well!! Please tell us all about the party afterwards!!
