- It was actually pretty cool out today. We’d seen some fall temps early in September, then the last week was pretty warm, and now fall has returned. This is awesome; there’s nothing like walking out in the morning and being greeted by the cool temps and that feel of a new season.
- I am taking from 2 pm off today so I can take my son clothes shopping. He grew about 4 inches since last season so of course, nothing fits him and he has no pants or hoodies. This time of year always catches me off guard. I am sure my daughter will need stuff too.
- It was a rough week for my oldest: he got a speeding ticket (though, fair to say, he had this one coming for a while; he’s been pulled over twice and only given a warning), but then one of his friends went to jail for stealing money from his grandparents. This friend was someone I never really liked so I do hope my son breaks al ties for real this time. I mean, who does that? Ugh.
- I am really caught up calculating grades, which is great since they’re due for Q1 on Monday. I have set a heard deadline for the final things and we’ll see how it all goes but I am really proud of myself for not saving a lot of grading for the end of the quarter! It is shocking, though, how many students simply don’t turn in work, especially when I give them the ability to turn in old stuff for partial credit. I’d want every bit I could get!
- Later today, Ash and I are going out to eat. Lately, we haven not been (if you don’t count vacation) because we don’t have time! When we get home form work, I’ve been making stuff. He and I used to meet up for lunch a lot but I can’t leave school and I only get 40 minutes anyway. I am looking forward to it@
Ugh about the speeding ticket. BUT, I really do think young guys tend to speed a lot (I´m saying this as a mother of a young man whose car I´ve ridden in numerous times) and hopefully the ticket will cause your son to not have so lead of a foot! I remember when my son got a ticket, it was in a really bad speed trap- the speed limit goes from 45 to 25 in a quasi country yet still in the city district road. There was a cop sitting right where the limit went to 25- you truly have to brake hard or you´ll be majorly speeding. Anyway, my son hadn´t hear the term ¨speed trap¨ so I explained it to him and told him to take those slow downs seriously! I hope shopping is a success. Good job on being on top of grading. Oh my word about missing work. Our district is in the top 10% in the state and it SHOCKS me to hear teachers talk about students who don´t turn in work (granted this is middle school and not high school. But if they´re not turning in work in MS, they probably won´t in HS). I can´t imagine what it´s like in poorly performing districts…Have a great weekend!
Maybe the speeding ticket will scratch that itch. And the friend stealing from Grandma?? Oof.
Too bad about the ticket. It’s a tough lesson and maybe it will stick. I still tend to drive a little too fast, but thankfully have not had a ticket since I was probably your son’s age : ) Sounds like the job is going well. Hope you had a nice weekend!
