Hello Monday – It IS always something…

I had both a Thursday and Friday post begun and never finished. Life is just really busy right now!

Friday, I took Dakota to camp then Isaac and I went out to a brew club member’s property because he offered for us to pick blueberries. We did that for about 45 mins or so then got breakfast sandwiches from the Wawa. I hate that people went all crazy for that gas station coming to town but I guess they have some decent food.

I did a little mowing/yardwork then tidied up the house for our Saturday party. Ash went to lunch with some friends but I’d rather just stay home and work. By about oh…2 or 3, I was ready to be done. The house was clean and I’d picked up our daughter. It was rainy anyway so it isn’t like she was going outside at camp. Ash and I settled in for some beer and bowling and then at 10 ’til 5, I got the email: I was offered an English teaching job at the Catholic high school. I was overjoyed to say the least! Plus, it pays about 5k more than what I made at the House. Since it was so close to quittin’ time, Ash said not to reply; it also looked desperate. My plan is to call her this morning and accept in person. I still have to tell her about our 2 week Germany trip and – fingers crossed – that’s ok! My stomach drops every time I think about it.

Saturday, we both got up early to do 10 mile rides. It was a quick easy one and I am glad I started before the sun was even fully up. I then prepped serving stuff and my chicken alfredo, then folks began showing up slightly before 10. This was our annual brew club summer party, as well as in-club Italian Pilsner competition. (The way this competition works is just the club members who attend judge the beers anonymously based on some factors and then points are tallied.) Our friend 3D printed the awards; all of an Italian theme: a Fiat, the leaning tower of Pisa, and, well, you’ll see the #1 award. There were six people who entered and we won! Finally! We have been brewing since late 2017 and while we have made good beer, I am not sure we ever made great beer until this one.

I love it. Imagine an Italian saying “Ehh!” It was nice to win; we got 3rd in the brown competition last year and I am not sure how because it turned out pretty gross, in my opinion. All in all, a successful party. Probably about 20 people and a lot of Italian themed food items. I was really tired by the end of the night, especially since a couple people stayed until probably 8 or so. Long day!

Sunday I was supposed to bike but I did not. Ash did but I got started right away on laundry, since we’d been invited to watch one of the club members do a brew at his house. That kind of worked out; I finished laundry before we even left. I got the kids all fed then we went to his place. This guy has a really nice home brew set up; he spared no expense. We had fun but it was warm out in his garage. I was happy to get back home but it wasn’t exactly cool in the house. After maybe an hour I realized our AC was not blowing cold! I was glad it was blowing but obviously it needs refrigerant. Sigh. Always something! So this morning, I have to call the company we use last right when they open and pray they can come out. Otherwise, I’m calling anyone who can!

Last night was ok; we have some box fans and so long as air blew right on you it wasn’t bad. But it’s 83 and feels very still in the house. I’m the only one here right now so at least only one of us has to suffer. Ash had a good point though: this is good training for RAGBRAI! It’s not like when we reach the end town we get to be in a nice bed with AC; while there will be some indoor spots to pop into, we will be tent camping. I can suffer anything for a little while but I may reach a breaking point by the end of that ride!

Anyway, let me get onto replying to others’ posts and some grading. Phone calls soon and this introvert is not looking forward to them!

  1. YAH!! Congrats on the job offer! That is awesome and that the pay is better, too, than what you’d been making. How neat to go blueberry picking with your son- that your son went with you and that you know someone who has a bunch of blueberries and invited you to pick. Also congrats on winning the beer competition. That prize is awesome. Phone calls are the worst for us introverts but… you got this!! Have a great Monday!

  2. Congratulations on the job! I hope the conversation goes well in terms of the time off you need. We’ve pretty much gone through all the berries we picked, but on Friday a friend who came for lunch brought me a big bag of blueberries from her house so we’re enjoying those now. Ugh to the AC…when it comes to home ownership it truly always IS something. We had to have a beehive removed on Friday. There were thousands of bees around our crepe myrtles because two of them have a fungus that mimics honey. So the tree guy also came out to treat that. Necessary but not how I love to spend money. Have a great day!

  3. Yay!! Congrats on the new job!!! I hope they approve your time off. Surely they will!!!

One of the things I detest . . .is when the air conditioner is broken. I hope they can come out today and fix it for you!
