1. My very first edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge was published on November 10, 2010 (linked here if you’re curious). Tell us something about your life from that era.
Wow, 2010? That was an interesting time! Elliot was 3, I had Isaac in April. We were busy and overwhelmed and then I look back at all the time I spent complaining and realize, it wasn’t that hard at all. In fact, I had it pretty good. Prices were reasonable, I made OK money even though I felt stretched thin, and having two young kids was fun. In the moment, though, it was not easy!
2. What’s a song you love that relates to time in some way?
3. May is nearly upon us. When did you last need to yell ‘MAY DAY-MAY DAY!!’?
Ok, it’s nothing disastrous but I am staring down a time in which I am gonna need some good news, stat. As noted, spring teaching is coming to an end so I have about 1-2 months to find a little summer something to hold me over. And in that time, we have so much going on, I am all kinds of flustered.
4. How do you feel about food trucks? Is this a dining experience you enjoy? Do you have a favorite What’s something you’ve ordered from a food truck?
OK SO, I do enjoy a food truck at a place that doesn’t have its own food and I’m feeling like I want to treat myself. I also like when they surprise me. However, I find that most of them cost too much. A few months ago, there was a Mexican truck at our brewery up the road and I got a chicken quesadilla for 12 bucks that was huge AND tasty. Apparently the last truck they had, a burger truck, was also good but I didn’t eat it. We used to have one that served “Viking food” – turkey legs and stuff – but it went away. I liked that one!
5. We’re bidding farewell to April…what are three adjectives you might use to describe the month you’re leaving behind.
Busy, up and down, FAST
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I started a random Tuesday post but forgot about it so here’s some stuff from this week. My Z post for the April challenge shall come separately today.
I took two 30 minute walks Monday: one after lunchtime and then later in the evening, our daughter asked us to walk with her. So I did the same route again. I am sure it was good for me; can’t be worse than just sitting around here! Tuesday I biked so there’s that. But biking makes me so hungry.
Oh, on said route, I saw a car parked on the side of the road that had clearly hit something on its right side. The front right bumper was all jacked up. Three houses later, I saw an utterly demolished brick mailbox and it was pretty clear what happened there! On our night walk, we went the other direction and noticed the car took their license plate off. A bit sketchy, no?
Last night, around 7:30 or so, we lost power. Ash and I had started watching Gangs of New York and got maybe 10 mins in until it went out. Reported it and the map said the estimated restore time was 9:21! UGH. We decided to take a walk to investigate and it was our whole area. Sadly, halfway through the walk it began to rain. So we went on a little adventure, I guess. Power came back around 9:40. It didn’t make much sense; it wasn’t raining when it went out. No one had any answers but the neighbors were all annoyed. Ash claims other places never lose power but I know that someday, we will move elsewhere and he’ll find something to complain about.
This morning, he has my car and I’m dropping his off up the road for brakes. I’ll walk back, since it’s only about a 30 min walk, though I may go to the store first. Burgers for dinner. I’m getting to that point (again) where I am out of dinner ideas and tired of deciding what to make. My family isn’t exactly the most adventurous (though Elliot might eat just about anything, he’s particular) so that limits us immensely.
On the perimenopause front, I’m over it already. Hot at night and not sleeping? Check. Random bouts of hot and cold? Check. Angry then crying? Check. Not all the time but now and then. This morning, Ash sent me a link to a new pop punk band and it’s good! And thinking about how maybe, just maybe, people could revert to 1990s sensibilities made me cry! I am so tired of people these days and I just want to go back! So yeah, those hormones are kicking my ass. And now, it’s time to get some grading done and get ready for the tasks of the day. As Carnegie suggests, stay busy!
A few years ago when we were visiting my daughter a drunk driver hit our car which was parked in front of her house. A wide road with plenty of room. Our car didn’t stop him but a brick mailbox stand a few houses up did, thankfully. I think most seasons are hard in the moment, but feel tender in the memory when we look back. Hoping just the right thing works out for you on the job front!
For sure each season has challenges and its joys. Life with really little kids is super hard but it sure doesn’t last long. That’s great that you’re moving a lot. I think it’s good for our mental health and of course physically as we get older. I hope you get some answers to the jobs you’ve applied for and that the best one for you becomes your job!
I think back to when my girls were little in 2010 and at the time it was hard but now I look back and I do miss those days.I hope you find something for over the summer to keep you going.Ohh! That doesn’t sound right about the car taking their license plate off. There does seem something off about it.
Restaurant and food truck prices have gone up for sure. I’m most surprised that Mexican food prices since that used to be a good cheap meal. Sorry about all the ‘pause’ up and downs. It truly is a thing. Hope it settles down for you. Hope you have a great May!
Restaurant food has skyrocketed . . .actually, so have groceries. It is always bittersweet to me when I go back and read things I wrote when our kids were younger. I hope the job search goes well!!
Are there any opportunities for summer classes?
You likely have above-ground power lines in Florida. Ours are buried, so we rarely have outages – one advantage of a dry climate.
Perimenopause – eventually you get old and it calms down
Most of ours are buried but we have some going to the neighborhood that are above, thereby defeating the purpose
