Random Tuesday – This, that, and the other

  • Remember on Friday I mentioned an old friend/acquaintance who had cancer? Yeah, she died over the weekend. I started looking up what she had (gall bladder tract cancer), which is super rare. I think the internet told me 8,000 people a year get this diagnosis. Crazy though. I haven’t had a lot of people, near me or otherwise, die so it’s always weird.
  • I think things like that just put your life into perspective. It’s good to take a step back and assess how you’re living your life.
  • That being said, we decided to have my birthday dinner yesterday, since we have something every other night this week. We went out for hibachi, because it makes everyone happy. I was just glad everyone could be there, especially now when my oldest is out of the house so often.
  • I have a ton to do this week but I keep thinking more about planning for our weekend than anything else. We are serving at Hogtown Beer Fest. Last year was our first and it was such a cool event. Hopefully it won’t disappoint this year. We got an airbnb with another club couple and another guy Ash knows from work but who recently started brewing as well. Should be a good time!
  • OK, I have two complaints today. One is that people don’t plan. And if you are a planner, it’s exceedingly annoying when you have to work with/around people who have no sense of time or planning ahead.
  • The other one is how often I have to sidestep a student in the halls of the state college where I teach because they are walking with their face in a cell phone. And furthermore, the number who have the volume at max, watching something. Like, could you be more rude?
  • I have to hop on the bike for 20 miles today. Our weekly training plan requires: 10, 10, 15, 20, but due to our schedule, I’m going to do 20 today, 10 tomorrow, 15 Thursday, then squeeze a 10 into Sunday. It’s never too awful but with 20, I found that reading was actually preferable. I got a book about Jimmy Buffett but then realized it was only a sample and when I went into the Kindle store, was shocked to see it’s a 13 dollar book. I have this personal principal of not paying more than 5 bucks for a Kindle book so now I’m having this crisis. Do I buy it because it helps me get through a 70 minutes indoor ride? Most likely I will but ugh; I hate bending.
  • OK, time for me to go put on the biking gear and get my act together. Looking forward to the clouds clearing and hopefully getting some other outdoor stuff done today, as I am also working on my classes. Wish me luck!

  1. I’m sorry about your friend. We lost a friend to a very rare form of cancer in January and it’s always hard. It does give you pause and reassess your own life I think. I am a planner and people who are perpetually late drive me nuts. I don’t get it. You know what time you need to be somewhere and how long it takes to get there. It feels rude.
