1. March 15th is known as The Ides of March, the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C….have you ever been to Rome? If so what did you love most about the city? If not, is this a place you’d like to visit?
No, I have not been and for a while I really never wanted to see Italy. I feel like lately, we’ve talked about putting it on the calendar for – maybe – 2027. We might even take some of the kids. My brother-in-law married a woman who has a lot of family from and still living in Italy and it would be cool to coordinate a trip with then. Though, his kids are a lot younger so it would be more difficult.
2. ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ What project/activity/improvement (of any kind) do you have going on right now to which this saying might be applied?
The stupid root. I told you how we built a firepit but now, we want to lay a concrete pad around it for chairs but we encountered the deep roots of a tree we had cut down years ago. They ground the stump but the root is a monster and we’ve been hacking away at it. In the meantime, there’s just a huge dug up area over there that’s an eyesore.
3. Let’s do a little this or that with some Italian foods…
- Caprese salad or Prosciutto with melon?
- Bruschetta or Antipasto?
- lasagne or ravioli?
- bolognese or Carbonara?
- Risotto or gnocchi?
- tiramisu~gelato~cannoli?
I put the ones I prefer in bold. I have to be honest, Italian is not my favorite type of food but the ones listed are indeed palatable.
4. Of the colors red, white, and green which would I find most prevalent in your home? Which one do you think is most flattering to you in terms of your wardrobe? Have you ever had your colors done? Is that something you’d be interested in doing?
Hmm, you know, probably some shade of green. A lot of our walls are light seafoam-y types. I have some beige, which I guess is more white but I’ll go with green. I have to say, I don’t own hardly any white but I do have a couple red and green shirts. If by “having my colors done” you mean, someone assessing what’s best for my skin tone? No. I wear black most of the time so it probably wouldn’t matter.
5. Life would be boring without____________________?
I can’t believe I’m going to say this but…people. I often say I hate people but that’s not true. I enjoy finding out what other people like and dislike and I am open to talking to anyone. I find – and please don’t take this the wrong way y’all – that a lot of people on a certain side of the aisle are very guarded about who they keep as friends and then they assume that we, on the other side, hate them. Which I think is a completely falsified version of things propagated by the media. That is to say, I won’t cut you out if you vote differently than me BUT I have been cut out by the others in the same way. Anyway, I do enjoy all types of people and recall vividly my parents saying “variety is the spice of life” and it holds true for people in your life.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I was talking to my husband on speaker yesterday while doing something in the kitchen when an email came in – interview! I have applied so many places I was starting to feel discouraged. It’s an advisor position at FSU and it’s Monday. Pretty excited! Wish me luck.

Mark is not fond of Italian food either. He will eat it if someone serves it to him but he would NEVER order it or request it.
I’m with you when it comes to people. It’s generally love/hate.
Good luck with your interview!
Yay! Good luck with the interview! Sorry about the tree root. I hope you’re able to remedy it soon, but it sounds like a back breaking job. I feel the same about having all kinds of people in my life. I have not unfriended anyone over their political views but we were unfriended by someone we have known for decades and it was kind of shocking. I don’t even post political stuff at all on Facebook, but I guess it was enough to know we voted differently. It was sad, but we can’t control it so have to move on from it.
I also wear a lot of black – I mean, it goes with everything! 🙂 I generally agree about people. People are interesting and while it’s hard to have a good conversation with someone that I don’t find any common ground with, I don’t intentionally limit the kinds of people I interact with based on politics. But I have family members who avoid interacting with me because of political differences. There’s tons of other things to talk about other than politics, but it’s like they don’t recognize that? Best wishes when you interview – hope it goes great for you!
I totally agree – I can talk to people about anything so I don’t know why someone’s politics would preclude a conversation.
