Hello Monday – What time is it? It’s so dark!

I hate the time change; just pick one and keep it forever. I am so ready for that to happen!

Anyway, if you recall, Ash and I were headed out of town for the weekend. It wasn’t without strife though, as Friday morning was a bit hectic. Elliot woke up late and then when it was getting close to the time they needed to leave, I found him in his room just staring at the floor. The night before he’d asked to skip Friday and despite how I feel about school (mostly useless) I am a huge proponent of, you know, going. And since it was the last day before Spring Break, I said he had to. He was mad about it and punched his door and the next day, his hand was all bruised and he thought he’d broken something. Oh well, could have been worse; my dad removed my door in high school so I’d stop slamming it! Anywho, the reason he wanted to skip was because he’s avoiding a girl. LOL. Something like the pressure of having to hang out with her at lunch and choose between her and his friends.

Two things here: thank GOD he’s pursuing a girl. He has been ranting for two years now how it’s a waste of time to date blah blah blah. So then of course as a parent, you worry your kid is not going to ever get there. But secondly, you have to balance your people; yes, something has to give. Anyway, Friday morning, we ended up letting him stay home, after he took his brother to school and promised to pick him up. Turns out he had a test in 5th period anyway so he went after lunch.

Ash and I got on the road around 9, after having a very nice chat with our son, trying to give some advice. The drive wasn’t bad and we didn’t really run into traffic until the last 25 minutes or so. We drove straight to Hop City and found a lot of good beers, actually. We also ate at the little food hall they have there; Ash got pizza and I had some yummy sushi! After, we went ahead and found our airbnb, which was outside town in Decatur. We parked then walked to Inner Voice first, then Three Taverns, Little Cottage, then Lost Druid. With the exception of Little Cottage, they were all very good and some, better than the last time we visited! Always nice to be surprised.

The next day, we planned to visit Bold Monk again, because we’d liked it so much the last time. We walked for a while in Decatur and then picked up an Uber. It’s funny; we found a cute little park off the main road and chose to hit the Uber there. While waiting on a corner, this old lady comes up and asks if we are there for the tour. Apparently there was some kind of plant/wildlife sighting tour meeting right where we were. LOL. And it was huge too; lots of people there for the tour, I guess.

Just as we got into the uber, I had the weirdest all over tingly sensation and of course, it coincided with feeling car sick, JUST LIKE LAST TIME WE WENT TO BOLD MONK. Sigh. It was a long 25 minute drive and when we got out, I had to just stand there for a second as to not throw up. But all was well; we got in, ordered breakfast and beer, and I started to feel good again. Bold Monk is so cute and a great place for brunch. We were a little disappointed because the last time we went, the biscuits were huge! They were normal sized this time but still tasty. We left there and walked to Fire maker, to give it a second shot. It has a really high rating on Google reviews and last time, it made no sense…and it still doesn’t. We had 3 very tasty beers and 3 I wouldn’t foist on my worst enemy. Oh well; we gave them the chance anyway.

After there, we went to Halfway Crooks, which WAS as amazing as before. We love lagers and they specialize in them. The people working there seemed like they’d rather be anywhere but, but we liked it anyway. Walked over to a very good Mexican place after, then Ubered back to our airbnb. Took about an hour long nap, then rallied and walked into downtown Decatur. I spied two places that looked interesting; one was an Irish pub and we weren’t there long, as the beer we ordered was kind of gross. Walked across the square to The Brick Store, which was the highlight of the trip. Great atmosphere, beer selection, service, and cornbread. An excellent way to end the trip.

We left early Sunday and I’d totally forgotten about daylight savings happening so it was later than I wanted. The drive was fine until about 45 minutes out when it was just pouring. We’d apparently gotten a ton at home too. As soon as we got here I had to dump water from the pool, we’d had SO much. Ugh. Once we were back and settled, we had sandwiches and watched movies and caught up with the kids. It was relaxing!

I’m on Spring Break now, as well as the kids. My other 3 schools are not on break so I still have plenty to do, but I don’t have to go to campus. That’s nice! Anyway, I am off to catch up on that work but I am going to enjoy being around here all week.

  1. Sounds like a fun weekend. We go to Atlanta to see friends a few times a year, so maybe I’ll suggest a ‘beer tour’. We aren’t in Decatur but we could definitely make a day of it. Glad things worked out with your son. I’m glad he told you about the girl and the pressure. These are the things they are stressing about and sometimes just airing it is helpful. Have a nice week!
