Friday Five – Ugh: January

  1. Well, the first brew club meeting of 2025 was a success: 25 people and a few new ones. 11 homebrews were brought and in general, a lot of people stepped up to bring food and help clean. Running a social club that participates in various events is no joke and I’m glad to see us improving.
  2. I mentioned earlier in the week that we figured they’d make state employees go back to five days a week in the office and yeah, they did. Ash is working a half day today and then it’s back to normal. There might be some leeway in it but for now he’s back. It’s good for me today; I have some work to do and then we’ll go to lunch. Thinking Carrabba’s; I want soup in this weather.
  3. I may also try to get on the stationary bike and get a good spin in. I would love to exercise outside but man, it is just way too cold. I’m over it! I will say though, it took me forever to get warm yesterday but once I had on my wool socks and some layers and the started making dinner for the kids, I got HOT. Then I couldn’t cool down. I usually blame age and hormones but I don’t know; it was weird.
  4. It’s supposed to rain later tonight then get really cold again, which is fun for a 9 am soccer game. Sigh. I’ll just have to be layered up. And Isaac too, as he will be working out there all day. We don’t have any other plans this weekend so I imagine we will watch movies and more episodes of Squid game season 2. I didn’t think we’d get into that again but we did and now I am intrigued.
  5. I forgot I had some stuff to grade for one of my schools so I’m doing it now. I still have about 3 hours until Ash will be home so that’s good! The question is: when will I get sick of this and get on the bike? Soon, I hope to get that motivation. Happy Friday!

  1. Your post title lol! We’re expecting snow to start here later this morning so I’m in no rush to do anything at all. Maybe laundry in case we lose power overnight. Snow on the lake will be pretty and hopefully not long lasting. Have a great day!

  2. That’s great that your brew club is going well! But, yeah, the cold is no fun. My daughter played a few outdoor soccer games in snow (in Michigan for a tournament in the spring) and we sat at many a freezing cold game (spring can be brutally cold here but it’s officially outdoor game friendly here!). Speaking of Michigan, my cousin works for the state there and he WFH. He’s in IT so maybe it’s just a few departments like his? I hope soccer and your whole weekend goes well!

  3. I overheard someone today say, “People who complain about the cold just don’t have on the right clothes”. They probably have even-keeled hormones and young bones.
