- Christmas was, I’d say, a success. We didn’t buy nearly as much this year but what we did get, the kids really enjoyed. Koda got a new phone, Ell got new Airpods, and Isaac got the monitor he wanted. Throw in some other stuff like a vanity, Legos, and little other necessities and they were happy.
- I made my typical holiday meal of a turkey, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, and corn bread and all of it turned out better than it was at Thanksgiving.
- We watched a lot of football over the past few weeks, it seems, and it paid off (literally) because Ash won his money fantasy football league as of last night. He said if he won he’d take us all to Shula’s so that’s going to be nice!
- Speaking of eating out, my parents got here the Friday after Christmas and took us out to eat every day. They like to do it and it makes me feel guilty but also, I’ll accept their generosity and not complain. How I feel about it is on me, I realize.
- We had a fun time while they were here: my parents went with us to a brewery Friday evening where we met a few friends. Saturday morning we went up to a furniture store because they wanted to buy us a sleeper sofa. For a while they’ve been staying in a hotel when they come but they wanted another option. So that arrives today, along with my new chair. My old recliner is, oh, 17 years old so Ash got me a new one. I’m pretty excited!
- They left yesterday morning after breakfast and then I got to work on catching up on life. Company is nice but I hate getting behind on laundry and whatnot.
- Today begins day one of a four day running challenge I proposed to the kids: run with me Tuesday through Friday and they can pick a meal they want. I.E. If one kid wants Wendy’s and another, Zaxby’s, I’ll get it. This is kind of big because we don’t eat that way. But these long breaks lend well to the kids a. staying up too late and b. being on screens too much. This way, they begin their day balanced.
- I’ve been running fairly regularly just to stay reasonable; there’s so many sweets in my house right now, it’s ridiculous.
- We invited some folks over tonight to watch bad old B movies and obviously, drink beer. Not sure how many plan to attend but it could be fun either way. My goal, after the run, is to put away the Christmas decor and reclaim my space.
- OK, off to do my Wednesday Hodgepodge post. Enjoy some photos below. In the one with all the women, I’m the top right; we had a little Friendmas thing.

Sounds like a very nice Christmas and yay for a new comfy recliner! I am with you on the sweets. I gave away more cookies this year and then took all those left to my sister-in-law’s and my daughters. Hubs was a little disappointed to discover none in the house but I needed to put a stop to all the sugar I’ve been consuming. I’m still finding plenty of little bits to keep me going. I sometimes think fewer gifts means they better appreciate and enjoy what they get. Sometimes too much is just too much. Your dinner sounds good! Happy new year!
Sounds like a good time was had by all. Happy New Year!
It sounds like a really nice Christmas and few days after it as well. I know what you mean about sugar and guests!! And running! I have been doing a pretty good job of staying active but it was hard today when I woke up to pouring rain. Could have jumped on the treadmill but didn’t. Anyway, I understand everything that you’re feeling about the holiday and its aftermath! Glad you had quality time with your parents and your kids. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you! Nice family time. Enjoy the running challenge 🙂
