Thursday 13 – Random thoughts as I grade

  1. Rain! We finally got rain. And a lot of it. So much so, that when I woke up at 3 am, I had to go dump water from the pool. Sigh.
  2. I wasn’t feeling my best yesterday; just that sort of body-achey before a cold. I was tired at 6, 6:30 but I managed until about 8:30. I got in the sauna then put myself in bed to read until sleep overtook me. And when I did wake at 3:30, I had slept solidly for about 6 hours. Glorious!
  3. To be fair, I didn’t sleep well the night before. I stayed up later watching election stuff then finally went up to bed, but couldn’t sleep. Not for nerves or anything, but I just felt wide awake. I do not sleep when Ash is out of town!
  4. The big-ass Chipotle bowl yesterday didn’t help but man did it taste good. I savored every little bite of that thing.
  5. I have a lot to get done before I can enjoy my weekend so I am being particular about my goof-off time. I sometimes leave a tab open, like a twitch game on FB, and then end up clicking on that for 10 minute periods. Today I am making sure I don’t waste time on that.
  6. I think the feeling of finishing all tasks before a quick vacation is glorious. Although, I am balancing work work with household things. For example, yesterday I got busy with cleaning out this one corner of the kitchen counter that gets junked up with papers, coupons, knick-knacks, etc. It had been a long time coming and now it looks fantastic! Did it have to get done? No. Did it help me get motivated to do other stuff? You betcha.
  7. So we have a lazy susan on our table and on it I keep salt, pepper, a season-all, and a metal napkin holder. I always know when a kid has eaten because the napkin holder is off of it, at a seat. This means they were propping their phone up to watch while they ate. I don’t like that habit but it’s also sort of charming in a weird way. After I went to bed last night, I know my oldest came down to make something (he last ate around 3 so I guess 9 was time) and that was how my napkin holder got off its lazy susan base.
  8. It’s dreary today and not exactly great for feeling motivated. But in that, it keeps me inside, tied to my computer, because I wanted to take a walk. But no; the rain and humidity will keep me in.
  9. I am making devilled eggs because I can’t think of what else we’ll have today and we leave for our little weekend getaway. I also think I’ll make the air fryer crispy boursin cheese later too.
  10. I suddenly got the urge to watch a compilation video of Publix holiday commercials. If you have not seen these (probably because you are not in my region) do yourself a favor and indulge. These things make me feel so… happy.
  11. Let it be known that I am not yet listening to Christmas music. I try to hold off until late November, and especially this year because Thanksgiving comes to late. I like Fall a lot and live for Thanksgiving day so, it’s not time for jingles yet.
  12. SO, I took a minute and watched the above Publix compilation and I bawled like a baby. It kind of gave me hope for our culture, to be honest. People are still people and despite what the insidious news channels want to say as they sow seeds of opposition amongst people, I do still believe most folks are generally good and we can all get along.
  13. OK, last thought: the following photo perfectly sums up my #12 and I hope you, do reader, agrees.

  1. Glad you got a solid six hours of sleep. I have been sleeping horrible, too. When waking up at 5:00 am seems like you´ve won the sleep… you realize you actually haven´t won it!! I hope your weekend getaway goes well. I will have to check out those commercials. Have only been to a Publix store in FL so that is what I associate them with (though I think they´re all over the south?).

  2. There are better things to watch on TV than the news. I bet a TV station that showed old movies and cartoons from 4 to 7 PM on weekdays would get a lot of viewers, because most stations are running news then. The news doesn’t bother me because I don’t watch it…

I remember a day when everyone was politically aware, everybody knew what was going on, and no one talked about it. We all liked each other then. There’s no reason it can’t happen again.
