Wednesday ‘Podge – It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day

1. What is one good thing you often take for granted?

Oh geez, I tend to take a lot for granted but then I’ll have moments when I realize it and feel eternally grateful. I often take for granted that everything in my house and family is stable. We don’t have a lot of drama or issues. Obviously there are little moments of rockiness but for the most part, it’s a nice stable home life.

2. What’s the boldest piece of clothing in your wardrobe?

Hmm, hard to say. I guess I have to say my biking jersey. It’s still in the same vein as all my other stuff but it’s a bit more ostentatious.

3. Do you think common interests or common values are the key to people getting along? Elaborate.

Hmm, maybe both. I think it depends on the situation. I hang out with a lot of people with common interests who vote very different than I do. For example, the vast majority of the brew club are hardcore liberals. I think they are all, for the most part, good people who would probably help someone in need. Value-wise, we probably cross over, though fair to say, a lot of them don’t have kids, which is a huge difference between us. However, I will say that I would not cut someone out for being of a different mind if we liked each other for our shared interests.

4. November 6 is National Nacho Day…do you like nachos? How do you like yours? Do you make them at home or only order out?

Yes and no. Sometimes I feel like restaurant nachos are not proportioned correctly; lots of dry chips at the bottom and some soggy ones on top. I like when places do funky things like pulled pork and jalapenos, etc but I tend not to order them.

5. Have you spent any time in Washington D.C.?  If so what did you think? If not, is that a place you’d like to visit? What do you think about politics as a career choice?

I went to DC when I was 11 with my family and once again with a friend of mine on a vacation when I was 13. I enjoyed a lot of the museums and the history, but found it interesting how crummy some of the surrounding areas are. I’d like to believe there may be some folks out there who go into politics because they think they can make a difference but in the end, they all end up being bought and swayed and a little corrupt, if not a lot corrupt. But hey, to each their own.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Well y’all, I can hardly believe it. Look, I will give you that Trump is not the best person, but in terms of the values and the ways he has and will help our country, that’s the best pick. Kamala was an empty vessel, carrying out the will of the cabal of war-mongers. Plain and simple. For months now I said that if he won, I’d throw up on Facebook a big picture of Grover Cleveland, the only other president to win non-consecutive terms. But you know, I don’t want to lose all my liberal friends and I fear that they would probably feel pretty angry. So I won’t. I will be the bigger person and just… thank God.

  1. I’m happy with the result and hope somehow the country moves forward. I have friends on both sides of the aisle but feel the gap in our world view has become gargantuan and there is very little, if any, common ground now. I am so with you on the nachos. Proportion is everything. Nobody wants plain dry chips lol. Have a great day!

  2. Exactly about Trump. I don´t view him as a moral leader at all. I looked at his policies and Kamala´s and there seemed no doubt what the better choice was for our country. That´s great that you have liberal friends. I mentioned that a new friend and I didn´t make it, unfortunately (thought it was not just politics where our values were different). I think if we had been friends for years and years, it may have been salvageable. And it seemed like a very mutual decision. No hard feelings, at least on my end. I know what you mean about gloating about the win- that will solve or prove nothing. Feelings of deep gratitude are enough for me!

  3. It’s gotten to where voting for president becomes a choice between evils with the voter choosing the lesser. I saw Trump as the lesser of the two, because it was a choice between staying on the road to hell that we were on and trying something else. Plus, I wasn’t impressed with Harris at all. On the rare occasion where she talked about the policies she would put into place, she didn’t seem to be able to articulate why she chose them.

One day, I’m certain we’ll have a woman president. So far I haven’t been impressed with the choices we’ve been given.

    1. Exactly. I’m frankly surprised by all the people saying that women who didn’t vote for her are somehow stupid. I don’t get offended but I do find that quite objectionable.

      1. You’re voting for the leader of the free world. The choice should involve a little more than who has darker skin and doesn’t have male genitalia.

  4. Love that biking jersey! How fun! I agree with what you said about common interests and values, and with your random thought at the end. This election cycle has really seen a hyper-focus on personality and the Harris campaign failed to ever articulate their policy clearly. Whether a candidate is likeable or checks a certain identity box should not be how we decide if they get our vote – I’m not going out to dinner with them, I just want them to keep the country safe and prosperous. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week!

  5. I’m pleased with the election results. I’m happy many were able to see through all the hyperbolic lies.
    Anyway enjoyed your hodgepodge
