Random Tuesday – From the trenches

  • For years I used the title phrase whenever my husband had to go out of town and it was just me and the kids. The funny part now is that they’re all pretty self-sufficient so it isn’t difficult like it used to be. He heads out today but we’ll be meeting him in Orlando come Friday. That night we’re going to a Pirate-themed dinner show (a la Medieval Times) and then Saturday, Sea World. Been a long time since we were there! I think it was 2016.
  • I do feel motivated this week so hopefully I can catch up. I got a bit behind on grading last week. Because it was Halloween and I had that classroom observation with the associate dean, I feel like I put all my effort into my face to face classes and sort of ignored my onlines, which is definitely not good!
  • We voted right at 7 am this morning and my husband and I were both #1 on each of the two machines. Pretty cool. Here’s hoping our country is on the mend starting today! We have a lot of work to do but I honestly do believe in the American spirit.
  • Speaking of, I wore my Under Armor Freedom shirt with a pair of American flag shorts to the polls. I thought that was the best place to be patriotic!
  • I have to teach and do a lot during my office hours but then I am kind of free for the rest of the week. I am cancelling my on-campus classes Thursday as a sort of gift but under the auspice that these kids will complete this essay. They are dragging their feet and the world is going to get real tough if they keep doing it.
  • Tonight should be nice though: cross country end of season celebration at a local pizza place. Once I get past that I am free of in-person obligations for the week so it’s all online grading and cleaning this house!
  • And you know, the one thing I do when my husband goes out of town is treat myself to food we don’t typically eat. So on Wednesday, it’s gonna be me and a big ol’ Chipotle chicken bowl.

  1. My husband travels very little for work. I do remember one time when the kids were very small he had to travel for a couple of days. I was a stay at home mom and a little freaked over no break with the kids all day until they went to bed! My MIL was sweet and came over with dinner for all of us. I will never forget that! I hope you enjoy your Chipotle. You deserve it! Yes, about the election!!

    1. My husband travels maybe 3 times a year for only about 3-4 days so I am thankful it isn’t any more than that. But he’s done it since the kids were little.
