Wednesday ‘Podge – Almost August!

1. What is a childhood habit or preference you will never outgrow?

Hmm, probably that I am ok being alone. I was always a kid who was fine – happy even – being alone in my room or out in the yard. I enjoy being with people and I had a lot of friends but I really liked to balance that. I am still that way!

2. Did you know July is beans month? What’s your favorite bean? Your favorite recipe that calls for beans? When it comes to chili are you team beans or team no beans?

No, I had no idea. I guess I enjoy refried beans or black beans the most, though will eat baked from time to time. I’m not sure I make any special bean recipes. For me, chili has both beans and meat. For my husband and two of my kids, they want no meat, only kidney beans!

3. Some historical figures have a tag line after their name, something like ‘the brave’ or ‘the wise’ or ‘the mad’…what would your tag line be? Explain why?

The Busy! I cannot seem to catch a break here; but mostly my own doing. I like staying busy. I want some downtime but even then, I’ll sit down and feel guilty so I get up again.

4. The way to my heart is_______________________

That’s not easy to answer! Beer? Spicy romance novel? A juicy cheeseburger? Cleaning something without being told?

5.  The calendar rolls into August this week, but before we go give us four adjectives that describe your July.

Triumphant (jobs secured.) Escapist (finishing up vacation away from here). Hopeful (about future employment and leaving here). Action-packed. (This one is self-explanatory!)

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So many random things happening and they’re all a jumble in my brain so here goes:

Remember I told you we had a bird nest? Last Tuesday I didn’t see mama bird at all, which was not normal. So on Wednesday I got out the step ladder to peek in there and the eggs were gone! If they’d hatched, there would be birds or fragments. So my guess is a snake got them. I guess that solved that problem itself.

I ran Sunday (3 miles) and then Monday (one mile) and my knee is hurting. But I am hopeful that if I stretch and ice after activity I can train this season. I forgot that my goal was to be ready for the 5 mile challenge in early December. I have lots of time!

I keep having these little moments where I suddenly remember that X is upcoming; things like fantasy football drafts (I have to work on that), a baby shower/bbq, quick trip to Gainesville, and – oh yeah – starting two new jobs. Teaching college is old hat for me but one college is brand new so there’s a new site to get accustomed to and figure out their systems for attendance and grade submittal. I have a feeling that before I know it, August will also be behind us and OMG, it’ll be September! At least that month isn’t too busy. We have a beer fest in Pensacola that we are just attending, not serving at, and that’s about it.

Isaac wants to referee for the city, like his brother did. But they have changed the hiring requirements and he needs a state issued ID. And it’s a total catch 22 type situation because he needs X document to get Y document but he can’t get X document without Y document. I’m about to say screw it and wait until he gets his learner’s permit in April and even then, will his documents be ok for that? I can’t remember what all we brought with us for that. The bigger problem is I cannot currently find the birth certificates, though I am sure they are around. Ugh!

I did budgeting this morning and I am back to being stressed so I’m going to pour myself into my work, then leave half day to burn sick leave that I have to use before the 16th, and then go and look for stuff for our beer tent in two weeks!

  1. During my childhood, I was rarely alone. My sister and I shared a room and we were almost always together. She was just one grade ahead of me in school. When she went away to college, I realized how much time I spent with her. Up to her leaving, I had never driven in a car by myself (even though I had my license). We went everywhere together. It was crazy being apart. Now, I don´t mind being alone at all. And I hardly ever get to see my sister :(. Life is strange. You have been and are, so busy. It is definitely that phase of life for you- three kids still at home, jobs, etc. I hope your day is a good one!

    1. My sister is nearly 6 years younger than I so we did not spend a ton of time together, somehow. Maybe that is how I got so used to being alone. I did spend time with my parents though but they gave me a healthy dose of independence.

  2. Oh my! I don’t think I could handle having that much to do all the time. Of course, I’m a lot older, I’m sure. Have a great day!

  3. I need space too, all my siblings are the same in that way. Hubs family is all together all the time and I have to slip away from it all on occasion. You have a lot on your plate right now, but have also accomplished a lot. I’m sure you’ll get into a new rhythm with the new routines soon. Have a great day!

  4. I forgot about baked beans! I love baked beans!! You are going to love your new fall schedule. Remember to give yourself grace as you adjust! Jefferson State Community College is where I’ve been taking my online classes. We are switching to a new system on August 16. I feel like I had finally figured out the one we have hahaha!

  5. I resonate with your #1. I always score right on the introvert/extrovert cusp when I do those personality profile tests. Prefer to stay home and read or go out and dance? Yes!

I hear you on the documentation nightmares for minors. Our college has concurrent enrollment courses for high schoolers – they need to enroll in a course to get a student ID number, but need an ID number to enroll in a course. What??

I’m thinking of taking some online courses at the college where I work, but wonder about how time consuming it would be and if it will help me job-wise, but my schedule is not nearly as busy as yours!

  6. Being an ‘only’ child I often felt lonely. Thankfully, I learned to be my own best friend and (shhh!) sometimes look forward to being alone. People-ing can be draining.

  7. Those are some great adjectives for the month of July. Congrats on securing the job! Our daughter was always able to be alone, reading and creating. Only kidney beans…so interesting. I enjoy kidney beans, too. Happy last day of July to you!

  8. I enjoy my alone time. I never thought to use that as my answer. Oh well.
Boy you are busy. I’ve had a lot going on lately and I don’t like it. I was a busy bee when I was younger but now at 70, I don’t want that lifestyle. I guess I burned myself out!
    Good answers!
