MMMM + Weekend of excess

Ok so it wasn’t that bad but I definitely chose not to drink many days this week. (I’m actually writing this on Sunday.) Let’s go back; in my Friday post I mentioned my son couldn’t find his wallet, which would have changed a lot of our plans. If I had been home I would have found that in a scant 2 minutes, it was so obvious. But of course, he did find it and all was well. I finished all my grading then left by 2. Got home and made sure everyone was set with food etc… and then Ash and I went to our friend’s house. Sometimes when his wife and kids are gone he hosts these little bottle share/record listening parties. There were only six of us but it was fun. Good music, interesting beers. Never had one of those slushie types until then and the two we tried were actually good. Still don’t think it’s even beer but they tasted yummy.

I am fairly certain we didn’t get home until around 8:30 but by then I was exhausted. I knew we had a long Saturday ahead so we went to sleep early.

I never set an alarm on weekends and somehow, I still wake up within ten minutes of my normal weekday time. Sigh. I got up and began packing for the beach and went to the store for last min food items. We headed towards St. George with good weather, but then it was becoming apparent that it was not going to be so good at the coast. There were other families coming and no one mentioned bad weather. They did say online that it was yellow flag warning but that’s usually good for boogie boarding.

Got down there about 10:30 and it was double red, no swimming. I have never been to the beach when it was THAT windy. We waited for others to arrive and while not good conditions we decided to ride it out. We played bocce ball and corn hole. I guess we were there maybe 2.5 hours before the rain began. We were the first to leave and I kind of felt bad but I didn’t want to get poured on. Isaac’s friends trolled him and said it got nice after we left and they all stayed but it turned out they all left probably 40 mins after us. Kind of glad it didn’t turn out to be true that it was nice! I would have felt some kind of way about that.

Once home, I cleaned up a bit and sat down, only to realize I was pretty hungry. We’d brought sandwiches to the beach and for me, I had two small turkey and cheese on water rolls. Well, I wasn’t paying attention and a seagull stole one right out of my hand! So when I was home, I realized one little baby sandwich did not fill me up. Ash, Koda and I went up to the neighborhood Mexican place and that was really nice. Just relaxing.

Our neighbors were going to come to the beach too but by the time they got out there the weather was already bad so they actually turned around and never ended up meeting us. So later at dinner, they texted to ask if we still wanted to hang. Around 5/5:30 they came over and their daughter and Koda swam and we drank. It was nice, actually. Sat outside with our feet on the pool and at one point, we finally got a little sun and a great rainbow! I like our neighbors and I’m glad we know more people who live around us.

The house next door to them and catty corner to us in the easement just sold and we can’t quite figure out who moved in. There’s a few little kids that have been swimming in the pool but our friend said he thinks it’s grandparents and those are just the grands. We’ll find out I guess. But since they’re new that’s an opportunity.

Sunday now and supposed to rain on and off. My yard does look fantastic. Boys mowed Friday so for now, it’s all lush and short and looks great. My aloe plants are doing well too and we’ve been using them for sunburns. Isaac thinks he doesn’t need sunscreen when he swims at friends’ houses but he keeps coming back with shoulder burns. But the aloe plant works!

I’m listening to Sunday morning jazz on YouTube and deciding when I want to run and what to eat for dinner. I went to bed thinking about maybe some bratwursts and red cabbage but there’s no way my family will go for that. Lol. Maybe steaks instead.

*******

Monday: We did end up having steaks. I ran 2.5 miles then showered and went to the store. Made corn, mashed potatoes and steak then Ash and I walked 4 miles. I took a brief nap in between loads of laundry, we watched a movie, then I made dinner for the kids. Soon after, we went to this bottle share event.

It’s a private group that meets once a month but we got invited to the Facebook page by someone in it. The thing that’s weird about it is there’s a couple people we know from the homebrew club in it and who never even told us about it. I guess it’s to keep things separate. We were invited by someone not in our club so that makes sense. Was kind of weird though when we showed up b/c the one guy (our treasurer, actually) was surprised we were there and really didn’t acknowledge us. Really awkward. But we had a cool time. I mean, they had a few too many rules, considering, but still fun. The one guy did say goodbye to us on the way out so, he didn’t entirely snub us.

When I got home I had to put kids to bed and make a lasagna for today and that was all fine and dandy but I was tired and didn’t sleep particularly well. Consequently, I was not in a great mood this morning. It’s just one of those unsettled days. But I think that also has to do with this in-between place I’m at with jobs. I had those two interviews last week so there are opportunities around. Just have to wait now. I was going to play that Tom Petty song about waiting being the hardest part but I guess this week’s theme is wedding songs so here’s the one Ash and I danced to, followed by the one my dad chose for our dance.

  1. Your weekend sounds really nice! We used to hang out with our neighbors ALL THE TIME when we all had small kiddos and then we all got super busy and some of our neighbors are still in that busy phase. It is a treat now to get to see them and hang out since it is not nearly so frequent (and sadly, no personal pools are involved- we do have a neighborhood pool that we´ve all spent time together at). I hope you hear something soon about the jobs! Glad your son found his wallet!

  2. I haven’t heard the Paul Anka song in a long time. Both of your songs were good choices for the theme. Good luck in your job hunting. Job hunting is its own job. Alana ramblinwitham

  3. We have good neighbors and it’s so nice to be able to hang out and do spur of the moment get togethers with them. We had planned to do some swimming while visiting friends (they have a beautiful pool), but the weather was iffy so we made another plan which was also fun.
