Random Tuesday – Back from our trip and time to get to work

  • Yes, we got in around 3:30 yesterday and I, of course, got right to work on cleaning up and doing laundry. Time went way too quickly last night, that’s for sure. Made kids finish up homework and do a few chores and Isaac had soccer practice, so it was 9:30 before I knew and I was passed the heck out.
  • This morning was back to work and the regular life we lead; all went well until I got into my office and realized I left my laptop charger and mouse at home. I bring my own so I can do my outside work in this office so – sigh – I will have to just use the touchpad and get as much done as I can the hard way. At least I can blog on my work computer. I probably could grade on here, since I was given Speaker permission for outside jobs, but still. ETA; I just logged in here for my classes. You gotta do what works, right? I have 6 bills in the queue but grades for one class are due by tonight so I will be BUSY.
  • On top of that, Ash had to travel today to site a hotel so that’s fun, having to be up by 4:30. I fell back to sleep but it wasn’t like we got a lot of uninterrupted rest.
  • We had a great time on our little vacation! I’ll do a brief recap then I was planning on do my Thursday 13 with some pros and cons I saw about the town itself. Might be interesting.
  • We got on the road at 8 am Friday and had to turn around b/c my oldest forgot his jacket! Sigh. Went on the east side of Atlanta and stopped for Mexican in Watkinsville, then at a brewery in Athens. We got back on the road and got to our cabin in the woods. It was a bit hard to find at first but we did. Driveway was really steep and gravelly but we figured out that if you got going fast enough before, you could make it fine. Unloaded the car and then went to the guy right outside the little area to get firewood for the place’s firepit. We then went into town for a little while, just to check it out. Looked at some shops, got a beer or two, and then went for some food at a place with a great mountain sunset view. Sadly, when we got back to build a fire, we realized the guy is scamming everyone because it is so not seasoned wood. I mean, if you’re selling in an area where a lot of folks come for the weekend or even one week, that’s just wrong.
  • The next morning, we got to a trailhead at 8 – Raven’s cliff. It’s about a 2.5 mile out to the falls at the end and while my pulled quad was killing me, I am not one to just give up so I hobbled my way through the whole thing. It was labeled as a moderate trail but to be honest, it would prove somewhat difficult even for able-bodied people. I had a good time just being in nature though and glad we did it. I think we got back to the cabin around 11:30, showered, then drove into town. Parked and went to the Hofbrauhuas for lunch, where I had some fantastic German fare. Walked around some more and then went to the mountain coaster, which was pretty awesome. After that, the kids were burned out so Elliot drove them home and we arranged for him to come back for us later. It was a long day but an enjoyable one!
  • Sunday was a bit more low key. Hiked a quick trail; it was paved and easy but the falls were way better than the day before. We then went to a place in town for lunch and while we’d scoped a bar with TVs for football, for all 20 they had, they were only playing 2 games. So we went home and just watched there. Around 4, Dakota and I ran up to Fred’s Famous Peanuts and got both boiled and roasted, along with what we hoped was dry firewood. Turned out to be so we finally had a firepit fire that evening and it was a nice last day.
  • Left around 8 Monday and stopped into the Hofer bakery, because the day before it had too long of a line. I got the kids donuts and I bought some sausages. We decided to stop halfway in Macon for food and the Piedmont brewery was good. I mean, their beer was average but the bbq was good. Kids enjoyed it, thankfully. Got back on the road and headed home!
  • OK, I have to work on my Wednesday post and submit one of these drafts at least. I can’t get too far behind!

  1. Sounds like a nice weekend getaway! A little nature goes a long way, I find, to rejuvenate. Way to tough it out with the injured quad. I hope it’s feeling better
