Wednesday ‘Podge – Usually August sucks but for me, it’s been September

1. It’s National Read A Book Day…whatcha’ reading? What’s a book you want to read?

Right now on my Kindle I am about halfway through a book called “The Rise and Fall (and Rise Again) of Hair Metal and also, “The Hunter-Gather’s Guide to the 21st Century.” I am also reading a paperback called “We Sold our Souls”, which I may have mentioned. It’s about a imaginary rock band and it kind of follows the Faust story. I like it but it also gives me a bad feeling, if that makes sense. Anyway, nothing I really want to read other than to finish these.

2. Which is better…having high expectations or low expectations? Explain why.

I think it’s best to be realistic and manage your expectations. I have high expectations for my kids, because I think setting the bar high makes them aim higher too but in general in life, shoot lower. Like this morning when we were behind a bus. I told Isaac that given how the morning was going, lower your expectations and expect that we’d be behind the bus the entire time. (We were.)

3. Serenity is________________________.

The rare moment when I can sit somewhere and enjoy nature and feel like I am actually caught up.

4. What’s  the most interesting thing in your purse or pocket right now?

I don’t carry a purse so that’s hard to say. Plus, there’s nothing in my pocket except my tiny wallet of 5 cards. Sometimes though, I will pick things up in the house and jam them in my pockets. So yesterday, I had an old dryer sheet and a tiny Santa. Who knows where that came from!

5. What helps you calm down?

Hmm, usually, loud music. Sounds counterintuitive but listening to something angry helps me to be calm.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

It’s already been a week and it’s only halfway done! I am home today recovering from my cataract surgery. I feel pretty good but it definitely is blurry. They say that’s pretty normal but at least it doesn’t hurt. My right eye doesn’t have issues but it feels blurry when I open my left, which I guess makes sense. I won’t truly know my right eye’s downfalls until this one heals I guess. Hopefully I can go to work tomorrow, though the computer through one eye is funky. I hope at least I can drive tomorrow. It seems like it fully heals in a few days and sight returns pretty quickly. We shall see!

  1. I didn’t know you were having cataract surgery. I know it’s in my (probably sooner than later) future. Hope the recovery goes well.
AHA! Sometimes, I search for “calming” music, only to reap suggestions I find boring and irritating. The loud angry stuff works way better for me too.
An old dryer sheet and tiny Santa – likely not a common answer!

  2. I didn’t know you were having cataract surgery. When I went to the opthalmologist last month, she said I had very small cataracts in both eyes which is normal for a 65 year old. I asked her how would I know when it was time to have something done and she said, “trust me. you will know!”
I think you win with the tiny Santa and the dryer sheet!!

  3. Hope the healing of your eye goes well and you can have these surgeries behind you with everything looking brighter. Also hoping the tides turn to where you will enjoy the rest of September. A Santa in your pocket sounds like fun to me. 🙂

  4. I’m so sorry it’s been quite the week for you already. I hope your eye heals soon and your vision will be back to as close to normal as can be hoped for (I don’t know your situation, whether you just have cataracts or other eye issues too).

  5. I hope your eye heals quickly and your vision will be back to normal quickly. It’s so amazing what they can do with eye surgery nowadays and how short the healing time can be. And I hope September gets a lot better for you! LOL at the little Santa and the dryer sheet in your pocket!
