Wednesday ‘podge – songs and years ago and desserts

1. Do you know much about (or understand) Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Does it worry or excite you?

In a lot of ways, yes. My husband is a programmer so he understands a lot of that and is always explaining to me how it works, especially when people say computers will take over. They aren’t sentient and only do what they are told to do. Could someone make them do devious things? Sure, but that could have already happened so this new idea that A.I. will start thinking for itself is silly. I don’t really have an opinion on whether it is scary or exciting; I can tell you that from an English teacher’s POV, ChatGPT is problematic for essay-writing.

2. What was the last song you listened to? Your favorite movie soundtrack? What song always puts you in a good mood?

The very last song to come onto my SiriusXM app was Poco – Barbados. I love yacht rock! I don’t know if I could list my favorite movie soundtrack but Forrest Gump was good, as well as Flashdance and the first Guardians of the Galaxy. A song that always puts me in a good mood is Kenny Loggins – This is it.

3. What were you doing ten years ago?

I love these questions because I just go back to ye olde blog archive and find what I was writing about! Looks like we were going to garage sales and school was ending for the kids; I was pregnant and we were going to the beach. It was a busy time but in a different way than now, that’s for sure. Kids were so much littler!

4. Your favorite no-bake summer dessert?

For sure this one:

5. Something you’re looking forward to in June?

Oh, so many things, starting with beach day on Saturday. If you read the above post from 10 years ago, I talk about our beach crew; some of the same folks will be there this time! Also looking forward to a couple brew club events – canning the wee heavy the club made two Decembers ago, as well as a group brew at our house. I’m excited to just feel less stress. Even though I now have to drive kids to camp (whereas during the school year they have rides to school) it is still a more relaxed time of the year.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

In the office Tuesday, doing nothing but reading blogs and writing posts and sort of just wasting time. It’s so weird not having “work” to do, though I should be studying my manuals and trying to take in as much info post-session as I can. I feel like I’m just so beat after my long weekend. Had a lot of socializing and a lot of sun, which both wear me out. I just feel like I need the quiet of the office to recover. The only part of me that got sunburned were my lips! Sounds crazy, especially since I put SPF chap stick on. But I’m glad I reapplied enough and/or didn’t spend too much time out there. Next Saturday may not be the same, that’s for sure. I inevitably get a bit burned at the beach, even when we have about 4-5 canopies we all collect under.

Wednesday now and it’s been A MORNING. Isaac left his CIT (counselor in training) badge in Ash’s car yesterday and he’d already gone to work so we had to hustle out of the house so we could stop by his office first, before taking them to camp. But we all made it on time so, no worries. Today I have to do grading and then I have a meeting for one of my online schools, then I leave at 2 to take my oldest to a job interview. Sounds like a crazy busy day but I know I can handle it. It’s summer, after all, and things are slower in general. Love it!

  1. The whole AI thing and academics is challenging. There’s a lot to figure out but time marches on and we have to find a way to use these new technologies, and use them for our benefit. That cheesecake salad looks so good. I am going to try it this summer. It might be a fun July 4th treat since the berries add patriotic color. Enjoy your quiet office day.

  2. Enjoy your quiet office day! Sometimes we all need a day to recharge! AI is challenging and I am pretty sure in the years to come I will learn to navigate this new challenge.

  3. My “part” in my hair ALWAYS burns. When we were in Israel in February, I was on antibiotics and my face, lips, and part ALL burned. It was the craziest thing. It looked horrible and when we got back, it peeled!! We had covid so were isolated at home so people didn’t have to see me as I molted!

  4. So glad your office is quiet because it sounds like you have had a busy, busy past few days. Enjoy the beach and don’t get burned.
