Talk to us Tuesday – Actually sounding off this time

::Clap clap!::

Ahem. So, what kind of people do you work with? The office upstairs (Thank GOD I don’t work up there) consists of mainly women. Our department chair is male but the front desk person, accountant, grad assistant, and office manager are all women. And in this, a lot of issues arise revolving around sensibilities and emotions.

In essence, I agreed to take on the task of ordering food for our staff lunch. Normally, my one friend who does work up there will do it but she’s fed up with individual orders and people being picky, etc. I offered to do it and I just knew I was getting myself into a bad situation. I suggested a local deli for sandwiches but one of the other ladies suggested a food truck. So I picked one and sent out the typical email requesting orders. Well, one girl decided she can’t eat from there. And then the woman who suggested the truck said SHE couldn’t eat from there. THEN, another lady said the same. So at first, I said, OK fine, you guys find something else. But now it looks like I gave three people another option while the other 13 of us had to order from this place.

Now, typically, a place is chosen by the one running it, people put in their orders, and that’s that. But somehow, the one time I take on this project, some people screw it up so I look bad. Let me tell you, if those people had just shut their traps and appreciated a free meal, none of this would have happened. I’m not as mad as I was yesterday but that’s because I washed my hands of it. I did my part. I’m not saying anything else. I’m going to eat my food and listen to everyone complain in the meeting and go about my business. But it reminded me why I stay to myself, do my work, and keep my mouth shut. I shall do so from here on out.

I just find office/work politics to be the bane of my existence.

  1. I would be the keep to my self kinda of gal also. Why would the woman who suggested the place complain about it. I think some people aren’t happy unless they are complaining.

  2. Ahhh office lunches… Most of the time we all agree around here (there’s about 6-8 of us who take part), but sometimes there are disagreements and all hell breaks loose. I try to steer clear. I’m making lunch for this Friday and I’m already nervous. Lasagna, caesar salad & garlic bread. Last time someone complained about my homemade caesar salad dressing (because it has raw egg in it), and another person whined about the cottage cheese in my lasagna. The majority have asked me to make it again, though, so bought dressing for the salad and I’m putting the cottage cheese in, like it or lump it! So stressful! ha!

  3. Girls are catty. Almost always! And I prefer working with men also. They aren’t bitches! I’m sorry you work with a few bitches.

    Thank you, Sweets, for linking up with us!!

  4. What is it about offices that turn grown ass women into high school bitches? I do not understand it!! Sorry for the profanity but I can’t stand office politics either!! I’m so glad I’m done with all that!

  5. I am thrilled that the only people I have to worry about feeding are my children and my husband., they all know better than to complain!

    Give me a group of men over woman anytime!

    Thanks for linking up with us, you’re awesome!

  6. oh man office biznitches are the worst kind. you HAVE to be stuck with them for 8 hrs a day…

    i recently was released from having to work with toxic women on a committee that we were all assigned to. one by one the women dropped for one reason or another and a new committee has been formed, sooo much better working with people i actually like to spend time with!!
