13 Things I think about while I’m running

  1. How to take out a potential attacker. I imagine if anyone approached me on the path I run, I’d not try to fight them but probably run into the street. It’s fairly heavily traveled so I could stop someone and the attacker would flee. I don’t expect anyone to jump out at a runner while cars are passing but you never know.
  2. How my right shoes is always looser than my right.
  3. The different smells I experience: laundry, fishy man-made lake, car exhaust, various plants/shrubbery.
  4. The piece of fiction I’m working on. I’m trying to figure out if a woman whose previous boyfriend cheated on her (with another man) could ever be involved in an MMF relationship. Would readers believe that?
  5. How annoying my headphone wires are. They always pull down under my shirt; I need some with a clip to keep them at a certain length.
  6. Depending on the music, I think about how there are no true rock gods anymore. When I was a teenager, I had all the hair bands (still going strong in the early 90s!). But who do kids have now??
  7. How old my babies are. Elliot is a four year old, y’all. And I have no idea how that happened.
  8. What other people are doing in their homes. Are they making dinner? Watching TV? Are they talking to one another?
  9. I think about food a lot, even tough I am rarely hungry DURING a run. I think of it in terms of what I can now eat since I am burning off all these calories.
  10. I try not to think about the physical pain but it’s mostly an under the surface thought. It skims along as a constant during that time. It’s present but not in the forefront.
  11. I oftentimes think about past vacations.
  12. I think about how I have to go home and still do laundry and cleaning and deal with children.
  13. Ultimately, I think about how no matter how much life is sucking, running is always worse.

What are your thirteen things??

  1. I think, “relax, keep going, relax, keep going”. I’ve been having issues with my feet so running has been super painful. Thank goodness for my awesome podiatrist that’s helping to fix me!

  2. OMG I wish I could run. I’ve never been able to. I’m sure that if I were attacked while running it would be at the end of the run, when I don’t have any gas left to get away. I have nightmares like that…when a monster is after me and I just get tired, and he catches me. LOL

The most painful thing about running is Me thinking about doing it. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  3. I don’t run. But I do walk. And it’s funny, I think a lot of the same things when I’m out walking. Right down to how annoying my earbud wires are.

  4. I think about similiar things on a walk, (these knees don’t run), so I totally understand. If 13 isn’t a joke, sorry you have to do something you don’t like.

  5. when i used to run #8 was my favorite passtime. it took me out of the physical sensations into imagination and often things I observed via eyes or ear in yards, thru windows, at curbside would trigger story ideas or maybe just make it into a WIP scene in passing. what voyeurs we are!
