Random Tuesday – Sick of it All edition

Stacy

That’s right, I am tired of a lot of things in my life. I am going to try not to let that affect my bullets today. But we’ll see.

  • I’m really disappointed in Old Navy lately. Bad selection, rude employees and general annoyance at the store.
  • We watched Mastermind last Thursday and as great as I thought it would be, I was pretty disappointed.
  • We’ve been making Elliot do these little letter worksheets – where he traces then draws the letter – in order to earn TV time. My mom says this is unfair. What do you think?
  • I am disillusioned with running right now. And eating, as mentioned in yesterday’s post. The gallon of rocky road that Ash brought home yesterday to dull the pain of the awful children does NOT make this any better. It’s like I want to eat it all right now just to get it out of the house.
  • Is it silly that I daydream about lounging in my parents’ pool come Friday? I feel like I need some goals in my life, you know?
  • I’ve switched form Chobani yogurt to Voskos. It’s similar but it’s all Greek to me! Hardee har har.
  • I have to say, I truly enjoyed getting a pedicure on Saturday morning. It was a good one: hour long, mud mask then massage and all kinds of goodness. It was worth all 8 dollars I paid for it, after the gift card I had 🙂 .
  • You know what I really want? I want to go out to a restaurant and eat a meal without thinking about the caloric implications of said food. Is that too much to ask? Why can’t  I just put my guilty conscience on pause?
  • I finished the Hunger Games series and I guess I’m so used to romance novels always ending with something, well, happy. I forgot this was a dystopian work of fiction. Sigh. Still worth reading though.
  • I am listening to the original 1986 Transformers cartoon movie soundtrack this morning. Full of fist pumping air guitar magic.
  • I’m considering selling Elliot to the gypsies.

That’s it for today, aside from your Man Candy. I’m two for two the last couple weeks; people have been fairly pleased. That’s a lot of pressure now! I’m going out on a limb here. Ben Cohen is a rugby player that has gotten a lot of press. He’s big and beefy and I think he’s highly attractive because he’s also a family man. And he willingly accepts and appreciates his gay following. All around good guy. And again, beefy!

  1. Lounging at your parents’ pool sounds like a perfect goal! It’s summer! I like the worksheet idea. I always gave my kids worksheets and summer reading to do and look how they turned out…..nevermind! 😉

  2. Worksheets are not a bad thing. Turbo gets to read to earn video game time–when we remember to have him read.
We have threatened to sell our kids and to sweeten the deal we always offer the toys too. So far no takers (and I’m fairly certain there won’t be but it feels go to make the offer).

  3. Okay, I’ll go in order.

    1. Educationally what you are doing with the worksheets is almost good but not quite fair. The extrinsic reward Elliot gets for doing the worksheets should be something that he only gets when he does the worksheets. I’m sure he gets to watch TV at various times in the day/week whether he does the worksheets or not. I would suggest tokens/tickets/stickers on a chart/poker chips that he can earn and once he reaches a certain amount he can trade them in for something (a la airline miles). And in that case he gets to choose (5 tokens = extra tv time, 10 tokens = new toy $5 or less, you know a system like that). That way he gets to choose, he learns how to make choices (do I turn in my tokens now or wait for something bigger?), and he learns the value of the worksheets.

    2. No one said you have to love running for the rest of your life. If you’re not into it right now don’t worry about it. Maybe it’s just your body saying “Take a break already!!” 🙂

    3. I feel the same way about restaurants. I wish I could go to one and not have to use all of my willpower to either order off the “Fresh and Fit!!!” menu or to eat only half of something that I really want and save the rest for later (read: throw out). But the way I view it (which is different than your situation) is that I spent the last 2 years eating whatever I wanted, and now I’m essentially 100 pounds overweight. So once I get back down into a safe zone I can do that once in awhile, but for now I have to sacrifice. For you, once in awhile should not be guilt inducing, it should be a treat. Having what you want once or twice a month isn’t going to make you gain 30 pounds. 🙂

    4. Man candy: yum. 🙂

  4. Lounging in the pool sounds amazing. Sunshine and the smell of chlorine… ahhhh!

Personally, I don’t think you’re being unfair in terms of that whole worksheet thing. I mean, he’s learning, and you’re motivating him to do so. Not that telly should be motivation for anything, but kids are into that shit *shrug*

I haven’t been to Old Navy in eons. Sounds like I’m not missing much…

  5. I was going to comment on your bullets there but wow…. I forgot what I was going to say because of Mr. Beefy. –Yumo!

Oh yeah!…No, worksheets are not bad. Good parenting, I say. I had a pedi Friday. They could skip painting my nails and take that time to just massage my feet and lower leg.

  6. I wouldn’t mind lounging in a pool all day. Maybe I’ll daydream about that myself!

I’m with you on the food thing, I just let it all go the past couple of weeks and have been avoiding the scale. Tonight I have to suffer the consequences at weigh in and I’m not looking forward to it. Thankfully I’m not feeling that way about exercise but it has been difficult for me since I’ve had the shin issues.

I’m not a huge yogurt fan but I find I do enjoy Chobani’s kids yogurt…the banana kind is DELICIOUS!

  7. I had my daughter do worksheets to earn TV time too.
She still has to do chores and the like to earn TV time and she’s almost 12.
TV is a privelege in this house…not a right. LOL
