Thirteen Sexy Songs

For the upcoming Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d devote today’s Thursday 13 to some songs that’ll put you in the love making mood. I’m not one for the holiday; I think it’s a Hallmark Holiday and kind of hackneyed but there’s nothin’ wrong with a little intimate time with your man/woman. So here goes:

1.) Portishead – Glory Box – This song has a slow, sensual beat on top of Beth Gibbons’s vocals and is definitely a gettin’ in the mood kind of song.

2.) Maxwell – …Til the cops come knockin’ – Oooh now, this song has that sexy R&B sound that you know means you’re in for some good lovin’, all night long. Maxwell’s voice makes me wanna do evil things and this song’s lyrics are bad. In a good way.

3.) With a slow driving beat and orchestral undertones, Pulp’s This is Hardcore is blatantly sexual. The lyrics don’t try to hide their intent. And sometimes you want it up front and in your face.

4.) Danzig’s She Rides is another song with that driving beat but played on a big manly guitar. Something about a dark guitar riff and Glenn Danzig’s deep voice makes me shiver with anticipation. Also, this song should make every chick wanna be as sexy as the girl he’s describing. Your man (or woman) would like it.

5.) NIN – Closer – Face it: if you’re around my age then this song was so exceptionally naughty when you were between 17-21 that I couldn’t help but put it on this list. It earns a spot because Trent Reznor knows what’s up. ::head nod::

6.) There is a distinct lack of women writing songs that sort of, well, objectify men or at least, talk about playing with their hearts. Not that this is a GOOD thing but it’s kind of refreshing. I remember when Fiona Apple’s Criminal video came out. It had a dirty, grimy look to it and lots of furniture molestation paired with symbolism. Good stuff here, people.

7.) Darren Hayes, formerly of Savage garden, has had marginal solo success. I found this out when someone made a True Blood Sookie/Erik video to his song, Insatiable. This tune personifies the kind of love/lust wherein you just cannot get enough of that person. It’s hot, suffice to say.

8.) Garbage’s #1 Crush is a super sexy song. No bones about it. It’s dark and broody and kind of creepy. But still hot.

9.) Most of us were first introduced to Jace Everett’s Bad Things when we watched True Blood. It has that Southern twang to it but a dark undertone that’s intriguing and gritty. I have this set as my ring tone when Ash calls. 😉

10.) Continuing with the country theme, Billy Currington’s Must Be Doing Something Right is a great song. I have it on a playlist of mine for writing. He’s reverent towards his woman and knows how to treat her right.

11.) Whitesnake hit on every awesome thing about hair metal when they shot the video for In The Still of The Night. David Coverdale’s voice was made for power ballads and this song, which is harder, more driving, with a two minute interlude that builds to the end. Bonus points for the cheesy 80s video with soft focus and phallic guitars.

12.) For as long as I can remember, Janet Jackson has been known for sexy songs with sweet dance moves. If has long been one of my favorites. There’s that guitar again and the video? HOT.

13.) So, this last song isn’t sexy or naughty or any of those things. It’s romantic. At Last by Etta James is a classic love song. Ash and I had our first dance as a married couple to this song. I distinctly remember  in Pleasantville wherein it’s the overlay for the Lover’s Leap scene. It fits well. It personifies that falling in love feeling after a long long wait. Beautiful.

  1. You had my heart with Pulp! Yes! That is one of the sexiest songs EVER! (Of course, Jarvis is one of the sexiest blokes I’ve ever listened to/laid eyes on – but that might just be me.) Then you throw in Nine Inch Nails and Garbage… Ooohhhhhh, yeeeeaaahhhh…!

Fantastic choices, I must say! 🙂
