Ok, so I know you guys are busy and you don’t like to comment and I have already asked this question before. But the Summer is coming up – semester-wise – and I could use some suggestions for books and music. We don’t offer a whole lot of English courses during that time but it’s a full-time job and I gotta be here.
So what’s good? What have you been really into lately? Please, help a mother out. Heh heh.
I’m reading Nicole Krauss’ _The History of Love_ right now (hooray! a book for fun!) and it’s awfully good. I mean, the ending might suck, but right now I doubt it.
Also, we need to do coffee? I have a hint of the plague today but maybe Thursday or Friday?
Have you checked out AJ Jacobs’ books? He takes on these ridiculous tasks like reading the entire Encyclopedia Britannica (The Know-It-All) or following all the rules of the Bible (The Year of Living Biblicaly).
Can’t really help you with movies – haven’t seen any at the theater in a while. I find the summer is a good time to get hooked on new TV shows on DVD.
Jumpa Lahiri just came out with a new collection of short stories called Unaccustomed Earth. I really enjoy her writing, both short and long. It might be something different for ya.
I’m planning on trying to read a book by Bruce Weber called _Like I See’Em_, which is about the life, the times, and the trials of baseball umpires from the minor to the major league level: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=102887815
I’ll second anything by A. J. Jacobs. I blogged about meeting him recently . . . great guy.
For light summer fast reading, check out Paula Wall and Sarah Addison Allen. They write southern girl stuff with a smidge of magic-realism. Very fast reads, nothing taxing. But fun.
