Can I borrow ALL your CDs?

The title of this post goes way back to when I had a roommate who, one day, came into my room and asked me that question. Emphasis hers, we still bring up this quote sometimes for a good, nostalgic laugh. Anyway, the train of thought came from thinking about how we now have ALL the movie channels with DirecTV.

Since we have a myriad of programming at all hours of the day and night, we’ve been catching movies that we missed in the theater, either because they looked like crap or we just didn’t get around to them. We saw two movies this weekend that I am damn glad I didn’t waste seven bucks on. Little Man and Grandma’s Boy are atrocious. Who funds these pieces of crap?

Now, Story of Us was actually pretty good. They don’t make movies like that anymore, where things are relatively realistic; the kind that strike a chord in you, making you realize why you try hard to make relationships work, why you love another, have children, nurture your family. Instead, I think people would rather watch movies that take you away from every day life, into some realm of absurdity where all you do is laugh at other peoples’ downfalls or smoke pot (see: two shitty movies above). We also caught most of American Beauty, which I hadn’t seen since the theater. Again, depiction of realistic people and their hopes, fears, desires. You just don’t see it that often anymore and it makes me wonder what the world is coming to. Boy, that makes me sound old, doesn’t it?

  1. Hey I was looking at your MySpace and I noticed that you went to Lake Brantley… all my cousins either graduated or are graduating from LB. to funny. I went to Seminole.

  2. Yeah I spent some time at Brantley. Sometimes I get freshmen in the classes I teach and they’ve gone there and it’s amusing to see who still teaches there. Ahh, high school.
