I realize that we can’t all be masters of the English language (like people – ahem – with English Masters degrees) but this morning I read a post – er – somewhere I frequent lately and this person who meant to say, “Granted, I…”, wrote “Granite, I…”. I had a good laugh out loud on that one. Granite countertops anyone?
Anyway, there’s a pretty big conference going on this week in Chicago so a lot of students are gone, as well as the bigger rhet/comp professors. This includes my boss. I don’t mind when she’s here, unlike most people and their boss. Most would probably prefer them to be gone as much as mine is but personally, we get along great and I sort of rely on her for advice on all things work/school related. And sometimes, on other life things.
I ate oatmeal this morning and you know, if I didn’t like it so much, I would probably find that slop infinitely disgusting. It’s either too watery or too lumpy, like gruel or something you’d find in an orphanage. It’s healthy though – healthier than that egg, ham and cheese biscuit I like so much – and I feel better about eating it in the long run.
Holy CRAP! I just sneezed about 15 times in a row. This damn pollen; it’s the bane of my existence lately. Is anyone else plagued by this or is it just me? I’ve always had allergies but it’s getting a little ridiculous. Upon my first doctor appointment at the women’s center, they said that Zyrtec (the only allergy med that ever worked for me) was rated a “C” in their little database. This means that not enough research has been done to know whether or not it’s safe for pregnant women. So then they said taking it now and then wouldn’t do any/much harm. if this keeps up, I’m going to double check and pop the pill, dammit.
Ok, I’m off to do actual work. How’s your week going?
I think docs can be kind of hysterical about what meds can do to babies, but that is just me. I don’t sneeze from the pollen, but when I open my car door, my hand is covered. We have a black car. It looks kind of shimmery and cool with the dusting of pollen, but I am easily pleased.
I am going to sleep under my desk now…. so sleepy.
And oatmeal is gross. Slimy. Ew. I hate grits more, though. (and my English is broken. It didn’t wake up this morning…. sleeeeepy)
Mm, I love grits too and would probably find them gross otherwise. That and yogurt.
I like oatmeal and LOVE grits, but I still have a mental block about yogurt.
I remember a day last Spring in Tally when I walked out the back door of Williams, and because of those giant oak trees and a brisk wind, the sky was yellowish-green. It freaked me out a little bit because I was thinking “tornado!” But it was the pollen. Damn the reproductive systems of vegetation!
My car and apartment are pretty upset with the pollen, but fortunately my body does not seem to mind.
You’re quite lucky then!
