J’adore espresso

Oh. My. God. I am SO tired. Why? I slept from about 11:45 until the alarm went off. That’s 6.5 hours. Plus I had about 40 minutes of deep sleep on the couch right before Ash got home at 4:45. So that helped me get through the evening. I don’t know if it’s just end of the year/semester general run-down-ness or what but I am draggin’. Ash didn’t even go to work today he’s so sleepy. Must be nice. I thought about it too but something pulled me from my bed – something other-worldly and intangible – and forced me to shower, to get dressed, to drive into work. And now, as I sit at my desk, half-comatose, I am wishing I had said no to this force. I wish I had the lackadaisical nature that allows my inner nerd do-gooder to let go and play hookie. But I don’t. I did it last Thursday but it was brought on by actual illness, not the need for simply more sleep. Sigh.

On a happy note, Ash took me out to dinner last night to celebrate. Not only did I finally pass the French exam, but I am now a Master. No, not a jedi master (but if you read my friend, Annie’s, thesis, I am mentioned in there as such šŸ˜‰ ). This makes everything so much easier. In terms of applying for the PhD for Fall, I will have Masters in hand. In terms of teaching in the Fall, I will be adjunct status, will not have to take one credit hour to qualify to teach, and I will get paid more. Not much more but every little bit helps. I can put the MA behind my name now, now it actually means something.

We went to Macaroni Grill, since it had its grand opening on the 11th. It was certainly obvious; no one knew what they were doing and our waitress kept saying stupid little things that you knew she’d practiced time and time again in her head until she thought they’d to the trick. She repeatedly reccomended the same items, always turned the house wine bottle on the table so that the label faced me – no kidding, she did this about 3-4 times throughout our meal – and she had the most forced, fake smile I have ever seen. Which then caused me to fake smile her back every time she came by. Ugh. Luckily, it wasn’t as expensive as we thought it would be (about the same as Outback) and we left with two take home boxes. I’ll be revisiting my spinach/orzo/chicken salad today actually.

Since it is humpday of finals week, there were some students bustling about campus early but in general, the halls are pretty silent. You can only imagine what next week will be like when the dorms are closed and the grad students have all gone and even most professors will be on vacation or at least as far away from their offices as possible. My project for next week is to rearrange the mail room. Sounds like a blast, doesn’t it? But IĀ  can do it in peace and it should take up time.

Happy Wednesday.

I guess I am going to eat this hard-boiled egg now and finished my Starbucks doubleshot light. I have a Tab Energy drink for later too. I’m such a consumer whore.

  1. Hurrah for having a Master’s! May the Force be with you as you apply for your PhD program!

Hard-boiled egg… Excellent source of protein with an acceptable number of calories (as memory serves me, not too many deriving from fat). A favorite of weigh-watchers and body-builders alike. But here’s the hardcore question: do you drink down raw ones?

  2. Congrats on passing the French exam! Yay for adjunct status! Yay for more money! Yay for putting letters behind one’s name (which I admit I put after my name on my syllabi now)!

  3. Congrats on passing that exam! That’s awesome. Yay for having the Masters in hand! I have returned home to find that I did not pass the Italian. I am convinced that it is not possible to pass it. I am pretty ticked off about the whole thing. I’m going to talk to my advisor here, because every time I talk to someone at FSU matters get worse.
