Random roll

Happy Friday and pay day as well. I did not want to emerge from my bed this morning nor talk to anyone. Blah. One of the big decisions I make in the morning is which meal I will buy. Will I eat a piece of toast and buy lunch? Or do I make a sandwich and forage for some sort of healthy breakfast choice once on campus? Breakfast to buy is harder because there’s nothing really healthy. I mean, aside from fruit, what isn’t going to make you go into sugar shock or load you down with carbs?

I have some thoughts on my mind this morning that I want to address. The first one is the issue of the man purse. On the new 99.9 Hank FM radio station, Bob and Sheri were talking to guys about their man bags. At first, coming into the conversation halfway through, I swear they were talking about fanny paks. But really, the man purse has evolved quite a bit. From what I can tell, a man bag is pretty much just a messenger bag. Not living in a very metropolitan area, I do not have a lot of oppurtunity to observe the usage of man purses. Also, since I am on a college campus five days a week, I see men of all types carrying bags of all types. I do believe there is a difference between the guy who carries a Jansport backpack, the guy who carries a Nike bag, and the dude who throws a messenger bag over his shoulder. But none of them make the man any less masculine, in my opinion, which was the argument of Bob on this radio show. My one question is this: if you are a guy who is not in school and not a suit and tie worker who needs an actual briefcase, then what do you need a big old bag for? Keys, wallet, cell phone. Unless you are wearing tight-ass jeans, I don’t see why these things cannot fit into your pockets. But that is not my idea to solve the man purse “problem”, as if it were an affliction making men more effeminate, as suggested. In conclusion,Ā  you should always do what you like, reagrdless of what people think of you. I don’t think a guy carrying a messenger bag at the mall is gay or effeminate and likewise, if a woman is NOT carrying a purse, this does not mean she’s trying to be more masculine. I’m very utilitarian and sometimes I only carry my keys, phone, license and debit card. I think people need to stop judging others based on their accessories, even the ones that are usefull like a messenger bag.

I was noticing this morning that the jacket I keep in my office is always hung on the back of my chair when I come in in the mornings. This means that the janitor has done this, kindly, for me, in the night. The lady who cleaned the reale state office I worked for over the summer also did this. I want to say that this is a very nice gesture and I appreciate it.

There is a get-together tonight for a friend’s birthday. I assume we’re going. I will be the designated driver as always. I don’t get to have fun. I prefer parties at our house.

I want coffee but I am trying to stick to a diet that will cleanse rather than bog down my system. Sooner or later the need will overcome me and I’ll give in. For now, I stay strong.

  1. I am a bag whore. I love bags. Bags are not purses. I don’t own any purses. I own two bags from http://www.tombihn.com and two messenger bags from http://www.chromebags.com. My huzzie also has a bag from Tom Bihn. He carries: cellphone, money/cards, a sketchbook (he’s an artist), various instruments for drawing, his iPod…and other crap. The bag is mostly for the sketchook. We finally found a bag that could carry his art stuff, but that wasn’t bulky. Plus he has fun buttons on his bag.

Why are you always the designated driver?

  2. Somehow I got into the habit of being responsible! Well, I offered a few times, just so my husband didn’t end up sleeping in some college house with who knows what going on around him. Although this makes me sound uptight and like I am running his life, I am just wary of some people his friends know. I usually have a drink or two then stop for the night so it’s not all responsibility all the time. šŸ™‚
