As noted in the sign up post, I decided to highlight beers I have liked. I know this sounds very surface but a lot of my personal life/hobbies revolve around it. We are homebrewers and I have – as of today – 4,582 unique check-ins on the app, Untappd. I keep track of all beers and rate them there. So, without further ado – K!
Anyone from Florida? If so, you may have heard of Ology, as they distribute throughout the state and have locations not only here but in Tampa. I have a chip on my shoulder about this place because they focus on hazies and sours BUT when they make another style, it’s always good and almost always sold out. They’re not very good at business in my opinion, because if they are selling those styles like gangbusters, then why not make them more often?
Here’s an example of how many of their beers are styles i’m not interested in:
So that brings us to one they’ve had twice when I’ve been and highly enjoyed – kellerbier. Below is the explanation thereof:
Kellerbier, or “cellar beer,” is a traditional, unfiltered, and unpasteurized German lager that is served fresh directly from the cellar, resulting in a hazy appearance and a more robust, rustic flavor than its filtered counterparts. It is known for its bready, malty notes, subtle hop character, and smooth, naturally carbonated mouthfeel, with variations ranging from pale (like an unfiltered Helles) to amber (like a marzen)
It fits the bill for what I want to drink but you don’t see it too often. Consider this: I’ve been using untappd since 2012 and I have only logged 19 Kellers. It’s probably just not a very celebrated style amongst the normies, nor is it something every brewery can pull off, based on the way it is made. But maybe this is what breweries need to do to stoke interest in drinking – try interesting styles!
Anyway, the Ology one I gave a solid 3.75 and can’t complain about it since it gives me something to order there!
